It will help first to determine the type of metal and a better pic as mentioned of front, back and side.. Test with a magnet.

If it is rust on the coin, it still could be a Silver coin underneath the crud, I have seen this before on coins like this one which was a Silver Saxon coin when cleaned

if its a copper spanish coin --- M with a small o above the M normally means "mexico" mint --- i think i see a smallish "o" above the M -- might be a mexico mint made coin of some type

[Bigcypresshunter]

What Florida beach was it found on and exactly when? What size is it?

Of course anything is possible but if it was found on our heavily littered and heavily renourished SE Florida beaches, its most likely something modern. However, we did have a Tropical Storm friday.

big cy see the tiny "o" above the V part of big "M" --that means -- spain's -- mexico's mint mark ---I'm thinking its copper type mexico made coin === maravedis ---- sort of the penny of its day. --it took 34 maravedis to equal 1 real and 8 reales to = 1 peso (piece of 8 ) or 272 merevedi to a peso

An ancient coin on a Florida beach? Surprisingly it has happened before.

Tell your friend to join the forum and it would be much easier to get it from "the horse's mouth". Heck, I might even be able to "guesstify" it! Monty
