Dumped and got a profit

Of a Canadian nickel! I dumped what should have been $100 in nickels and I believe the girl had to change the bag. So she comes back and says oh machine doesn't take Canadian. I remember there being at least 1 1952-02 Canadian Nickel in that box and thats what I got back. Totaled out to $100 still. Now if only what came from the reject was something better. Still not sure how I got $100 back rather than $99.95. Makes me wonder if something else slipped thru and she saw it was US so just added it to my total.

If that Canadian nic is pre - '82 it's worth keeping because pre - '82's are currently worth $.0886 USD.

I found 2 x '75 Canadian nic's as well as a few other foreign and US coins in the trash when I was dumping a week or two ago. So far those are my best dump finds.

This wasn't anything special. Just a 1952-2002, 50 year anniversary coin. I just don't get how I had extra when I always count to make sure I have the full amount. Oh well, too bad it wasn't something nicer. Think I already have one in my collection. Next time!

Most machines simply have a strong magnet that prevents magnetic coins from entering the coin counter part. However, if you end up dumping a lot at once the coins are falling too fast and there are non-magnetic coins blocking the magnet so it still enters into the coin counter.

I've got a bag of 1981 and earlier Canadian nickels I've been hoarding for the past year, and I've probably got about $8-10 worth in face value. Someday that ziplock baggy will be full and should catch a nice premium!
