E-Trac guys ya gotta see this

Just your typical BS test.

The coin simply pushes the pile of targets into the detecting range, almost any detector will do that if set correctly. Watch the second test closely, when he takes the coin away he actually scans higher over the nails, puts the coin back and drops the coil again. Don't buy into this video crap!

The E-Trac really is that good! :)

See my second to last hunt here:
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,229532.0.html

I dug that indian in the middle of that CIRCLE of copper wire. The indian was actually deeper than shown and was still singing at 12-33, just were it should for indians. Obviously when I pinpointed I got a larger signal (sizing is ON), but I still thought it would be an indian... yee haw!

If you notice in that video, there are several times that he passes the coil over the trash with and without the coin AT THE SAME HEIGHT... and it's still getting the signal and nulling like it's supposed to.

I've noticed my E-Trac can squeak out coins a lot easier than my SE Pro... I attribute it to the Trash Density feature... but it's also due to the faster recovery speed.

Aye, the e-trac is quick on the recovery. mine surprised me today at a park i was able to run max manual sens with almost zero for falsing. got me a 44 merc today. It's only the 2nd one for me so far(both with e-trac) silver sticking out of the dirt always makes my day

I totally agree.

Yes the E-trac is a great machine.

Rarely if ever do you get junk circling a good target on the same plane as the the target. Videos like that are not what I am looking for. I want videos that show how to and then doing it. I never hunt over wood and have coins on top of that wood with iron circling the coin. Most of the junk in the holes I dig are several inches above or below the target.

I have found that the E-trac works better in the ground than in the air. Air tests are not really real world circumstances and that the real test is in the field.

I find videos like this are interesting but the best videos are the ones that show actual finding of the target and then digging it up showing real world detecting.

I also would like to say ........Thank GOD that minelab no longer has that stupid song / ad about the Safari on the video section. It was getting so bad that I did not want to visit that site and view the videos. Every video had it on it.

The ONLY testing I like, and will do, and pay a little attention to if I see it online, is... Different people checking a real target. When I hunt with others I'll call them over on a very deep or masked target (that I know it's a good) and ask what they hear. That's doesn't prove a whole lot in the detecting world but does show them there's something they could be doing better or just need more experience. (assuming they can't hear it) That's part of the reason I stick with the Explorer, I've never been on the side of being shown a target I would not dig, yet I've done it to others many times.

@ Ironpatch... I know you may not look at #'s much on screen, but is your explorer the same as etrac in the way the Fe #'s bounce and even stick in the iron range on a iffy signal, is it usualloy deep iron or do you dig coins this way? thanks for being detailed as possible.

Sorry can't help, I really haven't looked at the screen since 2001. What I can tell you is once in a while when I get a target that is masked, and only a very subtle sound breaking through, for fun I look to see where it registers on the smart screen. The usual answer is it doesn't, so I would guess if I was looking at digital numbers they wouldn't mean much. At this point in the game if I was forced to look at either screen (smart or digital) to judge a target I'd be lost because I really don't have a clue what any of it means.

so, ironpatch...what does a deep or masked target sound like and how do you identify it as a signal you will dig? do you lower gain so deep targets will sound fainter or do you use max gain? also, what's your method of pinpointing and do you own a seperate pinpointer for exact target location? do you use ferrous tones in the iron? Thanks Ironpatch, i value your experienced input.

In iron I don't use a long sweep, just a short wiggle, like pinpointing. I hunt with conductive sounds with the gain set to max (10). Basically what it comes down to when hunting in iron is listening for the change in the sounds to determine a target, there is a fair amount of noise but they do break through. The low ones are the easiet to hear because most of the noise is high tone. The higher tone targets are more of a blended sound, very similar to how you hunt if in ferrous sounds mode. The key is to understanding the null, once you know it is when you have figured out how to hunt in iron. This is a topic that is very hard to put into words, if only you could beem to my sites for a few minutes it would be better to talk in person.

I do have a Sunray probe and like it a lot. Besides its regular use I like it at my real beat early sites when the targets are thin. It allows me to dig some real iffy sounds because once i flip the plug the only other step is to stick the probe in to see if there is something good, saves time over having to dig all the dirt out and fill it back in.

Ironpatch, so the iron falsing is more of a high tone, and keepers will ring in somewhat lower or blended? do you max sensitivity or lower to decrease falsing? do you dig everything or are you choosey and if choosy, what's the criteria a target has to meet to get dug or not?(signal characteristics and such)

My sens. is at man. 27, IM at -14, and do not adjust it, probably very noisy for someone trying it, but I've been using it this way for many years. In iron there is a wide range of noise but the lower sounding targets are easier to hear when using conductive sounds, the higher tones do sound like they're blended. Most of my sites are free from modern trash so once all the easy targets are gone even if I get a hint of a good target I'm digging the hole. Detecting one of these places for the first time when there is lots of targets I can basically go the whole day not digging a piece of iron. But as the good targets thin out whether it takes hours, days, or weeks, I start adapting and chasing more iffy targets, which are almost always iron. We're quite lucky here with lots of farmland and old sites so once a site gets fairly beat we move on and wait for the plough to run through. That being said, I have had sites that were good enough that I'd spend 2 or 3 hours just to dig a few non iron targets. I think the bottom line is putting the time in to get the experience. I thought I knew the XS after a year, but learned more the second, and the third, and even at about year five I started getting much more of an interest in larger iron relics and it's amazing what i learned about everything else once i started paying attention to the iron, studying it so to speak. It wasn't long before I made a few rules for myself at these old sites about finding worthy iron and leaving the small stuff behind and became a piece of cake. The rules are.... a null both ways with a bit of falsing is small iron and not diggable, a target that is good one way but not the other is usually med. size iron and probably not worth digging, but sometimes it's worth taking a chance, depends on the day. And the last rule is if it hits solid from two directions and no nulling it's either a non ferrous target and of course worth digging, or a chunk of iron that's big enough to be somrthing good. I don't think I found a single decent iron relic in my first five years, but since I began to pay attention I've dug 5 cannon balls, 4 trade axes, and other misc. iron finds and I've done it chasing very few iron signals, maybe a few per hunt on a normal detecting day where there are still non iron targets to be found. Like the saying goes I feel like this XS is an extention of my arm. There's no real thinking anymore, it's just knowing what the % is a target is good and deciding if I want to dig.
