I have an Eagle button I am trying to ID

It is the size of a jefferson nickel approx....

The back is marked Extra Quality with three stars each side between the words...

Just trying to date this...but all info is welcome....

The US Army's official Regulations for the very-specific design of emblem on that buttons face say 1854-to-1875.

Prior to 1854 the eagle's shape wasn't as "symetrical" as the eagle on your button, and the shield had a letter on it. In 1875 the form of the shield was changed, to a highly-raised shield.
