That’s one of the marks used by N.S Meyer of New York. Established in 1868 and a major supplier of US military insignia over a long period of time until they were taken over by Vanguard Industries in July 2000.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, but that particular mark dates to the late 1940s.

I don't know how to date it, but I'd love to find one like it, for obvious reasons.
Wanna sell it?

That one does not appear to be sterling.

And it doesn't have a Meyer mark on it. The style of Meyer's marks is dateable within relatively narrow periods and the mark on the OP's item is said to be from the late 1940s... ie post WWII

I, of course, have lots of EG&As from my uniforms in the 90s, but I would love to have a sterling, original one.

So would this one be a collar pin or maybe for the head dress pin?

I'm not at home right now. I was thinking. That it would be possible to tell by the type of pin that's on the back.. The heavier gauged threaded pin

Not really. Collar insignia on coats (dress and garrison) had screw-backs. Day-to-day utility uniform collar insignia(rank) was pin-back. And cover (hat) insignia were screw-backs.

EDIT: So...As best I remember, all EG&As were screw-back. But I can remember 3 different sizes.
