Eagle Sitting On Crossed Cannons

Went to a place I’ve hunted hard for several years. Didn’t expect to find much, but this little guy popped out of the ground. At first I thought it was a small cuff button but now I’m thinking it’s a snap off of a military item. Eagle standing on two crossed cannons. Thoughts?

Agreed on the snap cover/button but that should make it fairly common & modern. Although not seen that design myself!
