Early 1800's Cannon with Eagle "Corps" military button

I haven't posted in a while due to the fact that I have not been detecting in almost 2 months. I made it out to a site that I discovered in a construction area where they have cleared the land smooth making for easy swinging. This is the site of an 18th century plantation that has long since been gone. The only visable signs of occupation are boat loads of early pottery, clay pipe stems, and brick. Unfortunately I am not the only one that knows about the site based on all of the open dig holes. I managed to pull a couple of keeper including this button which I am assuming is military but I am not sure the period. It has no backmark and measures 15mm across. If anyone has more details on this I would love to hear about it.

Congrats! Awesome button it's on my wish list. HH

Outstanding find Ken! What you have there is a War of 1812 era artillery corps one-piece button. I've attached a pic from my Albert's button book so you can check these out for yourself. Based on some of the details on the cannon barrel it appears yours may be AY57B, but I can't be certain. I'm not an early military button expert so maybe someone else can confirm or refute my ID. Nice going!

Thanks Bill, for the ID on the button. I'd love to buy Albert's button reference book but I don't dig enough "good" buttons to justify it.
