Early 1800's Cannon with Eagle "Corps" military button

I haven't posted in a while due to the fact that I have not been detecting in almost 2 months. I made it out to a site that I discovered in a construction area where they have cleared the land smooth making for easy swinging. This is the site of an 18th century plantation that has long since been gone. The only visable signs of occupation are boat loads of early pottery, clay pipe stems, and brick. Unfortunately I am not the only one that knows about the site based on all of the open dig holes. I managed to pull a couple of keeper including this button which I am assuming is military but I am not sure the period. It has no backmark and measures 15mm across. If anyone has more details on this I would love to hear about it.

If I remember correctly it's a war of 1812 artillery button but let me check and get back to you. It's a beauty regardless!

Seen some with backmarks, and some without, I think it quite common for the oldest one piece buttons to not have them.
just saw on ebay a variant with only 6 balls, and eagle farther to the right, like yours no backmark.

love it. very cool find.

nice button!

Thanks for the comments and information on the button. I had seen some like it posted before and was very excited when I saw the cannon. Most of the buttons that I dig this size are just the common flat variety. This is my first military button that pre-dates the Civil War.

that is worth getting excited about, extremely cool button, screams history

I would have been excited too. I love the early one piece military. A "canon" was on my wish list for quite awhile. I luckly managed two last year, one of each size, a 24 mm coat, and a smaller cuff size, for a lovely pair. They are not the same as yours being british 1790 to 1802.

Awesome button! On my bucket list.

Nice digs and thanks for those pics

That's one of my favorite designs for military buttons. Terrific recovery!

What a fantastic button. Wonderful condition too. Very nice!

Good goings for you.

Nice find. Good to see treasure coming out of NC.

GL&HH.
