Early navy button dug yesterday

Got out yesterday to scout a new site that showed up on an old map. The usual signs of small brick and ceramic were there so i was hopeful of some goodies. This early 1800s navy button was my best find.

Man I keep coming back and looking at this thing. They just can't come out much nicer looking than that. Hope if I ever found an early military it comes out like that

Your ground seems fairly similar to mine how it corrodes relics, so I can tell you getting that green patina - gilt combination doesn't happen often, and when it does it's not usually on anything significant. That said, I have had the green and gold lightning strike once!

This button was dug in well drained farmers field near the beach. While the sandy soil no doubt helped the button survive so well, I believe that the high quality British manufacturing technique played a role.
I know of a certain Dirtyville guy that has some prime green and gold KAR buttons

I love digging the early anchor buttons,.. and canon buttons too !.

I know there are lots of variations of these, but it seems your exact rope winding is one that is hard to find a match to, interesting.
