Early US Naval button found this morning

I thought this might be a coin but turned out to be this very nice one piece Naval button. Condition is very good. Shank still there. 3/4 inches across the face. Few other buttons found all plain tombac. Found on Cape Cod. Thanks, Bill

Nice button Bill!!! It could be Navy but most likely a marine button. The marine buttons usually had a slanted anchor like yours.most likely 1820s or 1830s. Congratulations!!!

Definitely an early Marine button. Don't have my books with me at work, but based on the construction, I would say 1820s/30s.

The button was down about 8" in dark sand. Cape soil is very poor in most area's. Thank you! Bill

That's an awesome find! As a Marine, I love anything USMC so I gotta say congratulations for finding a sweet button.

Funny thing is my Gf went to Dom.Rep. right now and was worried her trip would be ruined by Grace
I said I guess I will go to Cape before Henri was in the picture
hotel refuses to cancel room - so gonna go and slug it out - will do fresh if i have to
I know I will at least eat good if you dont lose power
im an extreme hunter - have hunted in hurricanes and blizzards in past

Wow! Your the detector man! Watch cape papers for news of dredgings. They pump all the stuff on the beaches. Good finds it all that muck from the channels.
