Earring?

Hello I'm new to the forums and detecting. I really enjoy the discoveries posted so I figure I will do the same. I have been hunting a 1830s plantation home and finding some interesting things. Is this an old earring? It has a diamond in middle and what looks like gold banding. I don't know what type of metal the gold is wrapped around. Any idea of the age? I'm confused because there doesn't seem to be any break on the back for an earring pin. Any info is appreciated.

WITH NO SIGNS OF A BREAK ON BACK MAKES IT HARD TO KNOW,you found 2 which could be earrings but what are the odds of both being lost in the same place im no expert but im guessing buttons
