eBays Shipping Fees charged to Seller???

I've been doing business on Ebay since 1999 and the "new improved" Ebay sucks.. When it was conceived it was a great way for the occasional seller to liquidate a few things and make a couple bucks. The honor system with feedback being available to buyers as well as sellers was a new idea and kept everyone honest. They got greedy. They want to be Amazon and prefer dealing with the huge volume corporate sellers who can absorb a few fraudulent returns and who are willing to let Ebay double dip on the fees and so forth. Welcome to 2015. Ebay dosn't give a rats azz if you stay or go.. Sorry but it is what it is.

Um, I can't go along with eBay not caring if you stay or go. Twice now during times of me not listing much on eBay they have called to encourage me to start listing again.

Hard to do when it's a heavy and bulky item. I never do free shipping on items like that...always use calculated shipping.

Frank, what are your other options? I sell locally via consignment stores. They decide the prices. They take anywhere from 50-50% of the money. I had one stupid store decide that the 14K earrings I gave were not, and priced them at $5. I called them up and said PULL THOSE OFF THE SHELF RIGHT NOW. I had another one sell a ring for $30, giving me $15. It as a sterling and gold ring that they should have sold for a lot more. Again, they didn't listen to me when I told them what it was. One thing I like about ebay is I decide the price, and 13% between Ebay and PP is not terrible compared to the local stores. And again, as I mentioned above, I reach a lot more people. I send a lot of stuff to CA, TX, NY, and some southern states. Is it a hassle? Yeah. I hate a lot of aspects, but I do like the money it brings in. Let's me buy more.

I actually have a lot of options besides eBay! I did Gun Shows and Flea Markets for many years and have done some selling on Craigslist but now with a wealth of new groups on Facebook, I actually have many more options to move my' inventory and personal items that I want to move out to generate some cash flow. I quit doing the Gun Shows and Flea Markets due to my back problems and I usually had a lot of heavy items to load onto my' truck, unload, unpack and then set up to sell, then repack, load back onto my' truck and then unload at the end of the day. However, I have sold most of the real heavy items and most of the items I have left, are much more manageable, so I may go back to selling at these venues. Besides, I had and probably still have a large customer base that is waiting for me to return as I always have quality items at very reasonable prices. To my detriment, if I got a good deal on an item or items, I would always pass the savings off to my customers by not pricing my' items anywhere near their' full market value. This was often a problem as all of the other Dealers and/or Sellers would try to buy up much of my' inventory before the customers arrived and they would try to beat me down further on my prices. I believe I will turn to the many Facebook Groups here and near here that allow selling, buying and trading which I believe is somewhat safer than dealing with folks through Craigslist. It is too easy for folks and especially criminals to remain anonymous when contacting you about items you have for sale on Craigslist, while on Facebook, a person definitely leaves a digital footprint that can be copied and saved for my own protection and in case of a criminal complaint. Besides, I meet potential buyers in public places with lots of people, never meet anyone at my' home and with Tennessee's new (Open/Concealed) Carry Laws for weapons inside your' personal vehicles, I can now be armed and have some extra protection without having to get a Carry Permit. I will eventually get an Open/Concealed Carry Permit as I want to be able to carry a pistol when I scout and/or hunt for Ginseng and/or other medicinal Herbs, metal detect and Gold prospect.

I use free shipping about 95% of the time now. It's not hard to build the cost into the price of the item, plus you can't get complaints (low star ratings) for high shipping costs. On the plus side if the buyer lives close, you may actually make a few dollars on what you figured in for the shipping, since that figure is usually for the highest rate/furthest away from you.

Here is the new rules I received today from eBay

As eBay turns 20, I'm pleased to share an important update with you. We're introducing a number of positive changes to selling on eBay—changes which we hope will help you grow your business.

Coming early next year: simpler, more objective seller standards

Starting February 20, 2016, seller performance will be measured by the following metrics:
Defect rate: A new simplified defect rate will include just seller-cancelled transactions and cases that are closed without seller resolution. The following will no longer impact your defect rate:
Buyer feedback, including negative and neutral
Detailed seller ratings (DSRs)
Items not as described requests (including returns) that are successfully resolved with your buyer
Items not received requests that are successfully resolved with your buyer
On-time shipping: A new metric will be used to measure whether you shipped or delivered your item on time based on tracking information when available.
Note: As is today, in addition to the new defect rate and on-time shipping, all US sellers will still be required to maintain a maximum of 0.30% of closed cases without seller resolution.
New 30-day return policy requirement for Top Rated Plus listings

Starting May 1, 2016, to earn the Top Rated Plus discount and benefits, listings must offer a minimum 30-day return policy with money back*. We understand this means some sellers will have to change their selling practices but it's an important step in making sure Top Rated Plus listings provide service that today's buyers expect—and that we reward those sellers who deliver it.
