Hi Guys,
New to this, just picked up a ebinger metal detecting kit (for mines Really).
Would anyone have any info on this detector..?
i was out with it the other day for the first time with my young feller. found plenty of tractor parts and i hid a few coins for him to find..
one thing that has confused me is that when i tune it in as soon as i put it near the ground it starts bleeping....whats the cure??

...Are they the kind they look for mines in the ground with...........That the army uses...............I know nothing about them........

I also know nothing about that machine, however i'dd guess that it's reading minerals in the ground. Find a small area of ground that has no metal in it and tune it to that. If is old technology you may have to tune it often. By old tec I refer to transmit/recieve(non mineral compensated) and BFO (beat frequency occilator type). Good luck and let us know how it works out.

All depends on which model you have but most are pulse so no discrimination (Models include 400, 420, 422). There's also a magntometer but your not likely to have picked one of those up.

Most likely to be a 420 as the British Army got rid of all their Ebinger mine detectors a year or two back in favour of Valon, Hoodlum and Horn brands.
The 422 is the better detector as it has more sensitivity, batteries that take a fast recharge....even a solar charging kit.

Pulse is more insensitive to ground minerals than other types of detector but you will be picking up every bit of metal in the soil. If you didn't get set up instructions then see if they still have them on their main site.

Hi Guys, thanks for the info.
it was used for seeking mine I.E.D's.
The model is:

type 420 / NR 470 metal detector.
Ebinger detector kit mine L77A1.

I have just emailed the company for a manual etc...fingers crossed

That was Quick ....
Ebinger sent me a copy of the manual via email and are going to sent a hard copy as well.
fair play to Ebinger..

They are a good company thats been around for years. Your detector cost the military a few thousand originally.

Don't go digging up any I.R.A. arms caches !

Hi Brian,
What do you think i got it for....going to find the arms stashes and start a revolution...
would you know much about this detector? are they any good ?

How good you would find it depends on what you want to do with it. I've four pulse machines at the moment and would not use any at the local park because they would chuck me out.

I would think it would be rather limited inland unless you think there's a chance of a hoard. I'd love to hear how you get on with it on wet sand though. A few have bought them but they never seem to follow through with test results apart from one guy who found his didn't do well on engagement type rings but then it later turned out he was only getting two thirds of what everyone else was getting in air so he had bought a lemon in the first place.

sorry excuse my ignorance.
pulse, why would they chuck you out of the park??
Why not inland.
you may inform me...

With no real discrimination to speak of you end up digging everything which the authorities don't like as a park would soon end up looking like craters on the moon.

Inland a farmer isn't going to worry if you dig a huge hole as long as its infilled but its not very efficient use of your time. For fields with a standard VLF your best using the discrimination to just knock (even better JUST start to reject out) small nails. In a park or top of a beach most increase the discrimination to deal with the problem of silver foil which also deals with small/medium iron.

With a discriminating detector the more "reject" you dial in the worse the inground performance. You should aim to accept as much rubbish as you can put up with and just start to reject out the main problem item of the site your on ie set the discrimination so if the problem is nails they can still be heard but as "broken" signals not the smooth or rounder sound of wanted non ferrous items.
