This week, an excited farmer (last years new land) phoned the team & asked us to come look at the crop marks formed by the driest spell since records began. Of course Dad, Land-Mag & I took up the offer & he drove us in the back of the Land-Rover to 2 different spots. We looked at them from the back of the vehicle, plus took GPS readings (they are big fields). On the way we spotted a nicely rolled edge of a field. It was planted bird feed (Millet I think), which didn't grow due to the lack of rain. He said crack on, & I thought we would do OK, as its on the edge of a Roman Site we did last year, but only got 4 coins off, as the local night hawkers had beat us to it. Its one of the reasons he wants us to do it, as he wants to know whats coming off, always pleased to help ;D
I detected the whole of the strip pictured in just under 4 hours by myself, until Land-Mag arrived to give another nearby strip a blast before taking me home (Cheers) :icon_thumright: Managed 12 Roman Coins, 4 times more than the several attempts last year. Mostly dues to the perfect flat & wet conditions :headbang:
The other strip seems to be a bust after a 1.5 hour zig-zag up & back, although Land-Mag got 2 complete Crotal Bells - Well Done :hello2:

Richard II, 1377-99, Halfpenny :)
3-4th C Military Roman Buckle Plate section - never had this type :icon_thumright:
Tiny middle section of a Roman Fibula
Livery Button
3 Roman Album Coins ;D

Cru'dads Fathers Day present was some Roman Coins to record, log & map :D

Great day, I got the same amount of Roman Bronze Coins (bar 1) in less than 4 hours than the whole of June 10 :coffee2:

Good coins !
I find it very strange to see the autochthonous Roman pottery in England .. the Roman Pottery in spain area predominant colors orange and brown but in English Romans predominant the gray and red.

Yeap, that's was the bottom section of a Roman Military Buckle Plate, the 'D' shaped buckle frame is missing off the top, pretty rare piece. (on the reverse is two studs that riveted to the leather belt)

Most of the pictured coloured pottery is Nene Valley Painted Table Ware (middle status stuff). Made along the Nene River. Yes we Grey ware is the most common but not so much red. :icon_thumright:

where do you keep all this stuff you find? you need to start your own museum. when you find it, do you think about who made it & where it's been? I would probably be so lost in daydreaming about the who's & how's that I would forget about the time & lose daylight. the history is amazing. I am very glad you are able to hunt these sites, & have not been stopped by the archaeologists or gov't. thanx for sharing all your finds.

Excellent site!!! Congrats!!! :headbang:
Is there something you can do about those pesky bandit nighthawkers???? >:(

I do display a lot in the local museum :icon_thumright:

I think about many things :D

I'm doing nothing wrong & everything right, so no chance of the Archies or Gov't stopping me :hello:

Yes, beat them to it  We have daylight, the farmer, & locals on our side. We will either catch them at it, or beat them to what is left :icon_thumright:
The Law only covers - 'going equipped with the intention to steal' - there is no Law of Tresspass. If the Police are successful they can take their transport & detectors.
