Years ago, one could buy a coil for wood/coal furnaces to do exactly this. Sadly, much like many things, they are no longer available unless one makes their own.


Edit: My bad. Apparently there are still companies who make these.

For my early childhood, I was raised dirt poor country. I remember stoves which heated the house water, had integrated coils like this. I saw another Youtube video yesterday where a fellow wound copper piping around his stovepipe.

I wrapped 3/4 inch copper line around a round of fire wood to shape coil, preheated water by running a couple turns around outside of stove on a friends home built year ago .
We filled his pool early in the season with water so hot it was uncomfortable near its inlet to pool.
Dad cement blocked a small room around his barrel stove. Added a bare water heater tank to gravity heat water with supply pressured line in at bottom ,hot out top.
