engraved 33A quarter, real?

I have looked thru my change I had in the cup holder of my car, and found this quarter. It looks like a regular ol 1980 D quarter but it has a really good engraving job of 33A in the side, Both 3's are done in the same way, and there is no burn marks or anything someone did with something hot. Could this be a mess up from the mint or someone just defiling money?

Yea something... I can't see why the mint co. Would have any reason to stamp something such as that onto a quarter. Has to have been done for kicks or curiosity. Thanks for posting though. Good luck hunting!!

definitely not engraved, but stamped. who knows, someone did it for a reason but it's likely no one here will ever know
