Awesome day out on the river today. I started out where I found the 1892 Barber a week ago. Found a little clad and three indians and a little tombac button. Love the patina on them when they come from the clay bottom and with dates too

So I moved on as the tide was beginning to come in and I wasnt finding much. I decided to hit another spot on the way back that I knew looked good to try. One of my first signals was the beautiful 17th century spectacle buckle. Ended up with a William III, KG I, mystery dime sized copper with a shield and crown on it, trade weight? that I think is period, button and some leather ornaments. I hit the half real cob at the end and figured I wasnt going to top that today so I headed toward the boat. My next signal ended up being another cob which looks to have been a one real cut to half real size. I will be going back very soon

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!!

Looks like a weight to me! Great stuff

Damn man! 2-cobs in a single hunt is amazing. Especially when you add the spectacle buckle and the weight. Congrats on finding that nice early site. They are hard to come by

Now that is a fantastic site. I'd be getting back there asap...

2 Cobs in one hunt, truly awesome. Congrats on your finds!

That's a great day! I need a month of those! ..but would settle for one. :)

Congrats Toasted. Way to get on that early Spanish. The Spectacle buckle and apothecary/coin weight are nice finds too.
looks like you have a nice site.
Hope we get an ID/date on those cobs.

Thanks. Im pretty sure the smaller Mexico city one has the monogram of Phillip V on the reverse and the cut one is probably from Potosi but not much to go on on the reverse. Mine has the M over J and the P just like this Phillip V. Also mine appears to have a small portion broke off and 1/3 off weight so not complete as one pictured

congrats on the great finds

Had another epic hunt at this site. Stay tuned. Lol

I assumed they didn't cut those early cobs, how often did that happen? (first I remember posting)
As the were not perfectly round, cutting them in half to weigh the same would be near impossible.

Im not sure but I know for a fact that one from Saturday was clearly cut after leaving the mint. The one from yesterday is very near half real weight but has the pillar design on the reverse as well as the numeral “1” and I thought all half reals minted had a monogram style reverse. The size of the cross and the amount of border around it also helps in determining if it was clipped too I guess. Not sure if they sometimes used the larger dies for smaller demoninations though too. Thats a possibility.

I don't know enough about them to make a judgement, but if cut, I think that is a rare beast.
