Had a great day at the fort site - this place has been pounded and several prior trips yielded just a US button and Infantry "script" I for several days of searching, and some musketballs. Today was different; lots of bulldozing had occurred. Hit two US buttons (one not pictured given to property owner)...One Infantry, Script I...many musketballs, and my best button ever, US Navy officer's button...gold colored, and wild watermelon to boot (tasted good in the field)...

Nice and a built in snack bar to boot.

yeah that definitely looks like a dozer button! Away from the elements and likely the first time it has ever been in reach of a detector. I'd call that an epic day too!

PS: One think to keep in mind if you plan to clean any, in whatever way you use... be careful because buttons that have been away from the elements seem to react a lot more to cleaning, especially something like the acid in lemon juice. I don't have much experience in that, but the one time was enough of a lesson to want to pass it on.

Wow that's a beauty. Great find

Great looking button, and the melon would be a refreshing treat.

Nice finds a a fantastic button.
Still shining after all of the time in the ground.

killer finds man... love the early military stuff. that is one of the best looking early navy buttons that I have ever seen dug...killer.

The condition of that button is just blowing my MIND! Seriously . . . is it gold? How in the WORLD does it look that good??

Yes, it is strange the way some sites or items are preserved. When I lived in NY there was one particular site where all the colonial coins came out looking pure, like they had never been in the ground. Perhaps it is soil composition in certain places combined with the material of the item you find.

Very nice indeed!

Meant to answer your question; no not gold - too bad!

I agree 100%!!

Those are some great buttons. The gilt left on that one is beautiful

That's an awesome find.. Most buttons have eagle on left and anchor on right but the buttons with the eagle on right has 14 stars, the opposite has 12 stars.. Weird

That Navy is "killer".........and the melon looks "yummy"!

Killer finds there! What a sweet button!

That Navy button is simply AWESOME! I love military buttons from that period.
