Error identification thread (add your own!!)

Hi everybody, before I start to explain, I have been searching more and more for error coins. Looking at Cerulean's "Machine Finds Thread (add your own!") thread, the thought of attempting to create an error identification thread came to mind. Hoping for this thread to have the same popularity of his thread(popping back up to the top every once in a while), this would be a good way to help others out.

The person posts a picture/scan of possible error coins and fellow members of treasurenet.com will help others out.

This is experimental, hopefully it becomes a solid thread.

Here are 2 half dollars that I see as possible errors. If people can identify them, thanks so much!!!

The 76 is not an error and is post mint damage IMO. It looks like solder is on the coin.
The 1981 is called a "Struck Through" error as the coin was struck through what appears to have been a string. Possibly a slight premium as it is across the entire face of the coin and then comes back above his head.

On That Bi-centennial coin, Are you talking about the metal gunk, gobbed up on the coin? I noticed there is some pretty significant doubling on the coin, see "half" for instance. I have seen many many many that have doubling but not that significant. I wonder if that is the very common type of doubling, or the type that makes it worth more? If it is the uncommon type, too bad it is in such bad shape...

i was actually thinking about the gunk, did not examine the coin closely yet, but checking out "half" now and it looks like a slight double

I agree the gunk is solder. I'm 95% sure the doubling there is just machine doubling.
