Escape from New York

I can deal with five dollars for a day at the beach, especially if you're allowed to swing a detector. Actually, I can't think of many places up here where you don't have to pay to park. if you park on the street you usually get a parking ticket for something ! Thanks Treasure Hunter and Sandigger. Jim

Oh and that is $5 to park on the beach otherwise you pay the meters $1.00 per hour.....2 to 3 hour max on meter depending on meter so you have to keep returning to feed it..

I would rather die standing on my two feet defending our Constitution than live a lifetime on my knees......

Thanks WVP. I'm holed up right now. Waiting for the temperature to get back up above 0. Preferably back up in the 30"s. Moving is enough of a hassle , without fighting the cold. I'll be out before the Mud Season though, guaranteed . Boy, it sucks up here. Jim

Know what you mean. We are holed up in WV with low temps. No school for 3 days. It was minus 3 yesterday morning. Double digit today but in teens. I miss the South this time of year. Hey, you might want to try Alabama if you deer hunt. The season runs nov thru jan. Allowed at least a deer a day. Only trouble is you have to join a hunting club and pay between $500 -$3000 per year. To have a place to hunt. Some clubs have thousands of acres. My last one was 3100 acres for $900 per year which included a camper spot.

You know, if the folks who recognize there is a problem in Upstate NY keep taking the cowards' solution and running we'll never fix the problem. I'm entrenched and dug in for the duration. Have lived in this general spot all my life and won't be chased off without a good fight.

Moving "a little further West" didn't work for the Mohicans, the Susquenanok or the Delawares. Sometimes it's better to hold your ground.

I understand where you are coming from Charlie P., as we are in the same type situation in the sick socialist State of Maryland. Maryland is a great place if you could perform a surgical operation and remove the cancerous growths that are the DC suburbs and Baltimore City. Western Maryland and the eastern shore of MD are great places with great people, but I could not with a good conscience recommend anyone to move here now.
It is going to take a combination of mature, honest, intelligent, hard working patriots moving out the liberal strongholds and re-grouping in the south, as well as those of us standing strong here in the belly of the beasts, to overcome this internal assault upon our rights to life, individual liberty, personal property, freedom and our unique pursuits of happiness in life.

Hi WVP. those roads in West Virginia must be really bad in a snowstorm. I did spend a week down there at a cabin in Bluestone campground outside of Beckely. My former wife and I had just sold our first house and were attempting to Escape NY. It didn't work out, a road trip with 3 cats can really be a hassle and we had to cut it short. The mountains were pretty awesome..... and curvy!! 8 and 9 % grades for 8-10 miles !! When I asked for directions, the locals told me they gave the distance in time, not miles, because of the curvy mountain roads. It was one of the happiest weeks of my life. Had sold my house, had a pocket full of money, not a care in the world... but I didn't manage to escape NY. I don't do a lot of hunting, I can't use all that meat. My guns are pretty much like my fire extinguishers, they're there if I need them. Anyway, WV is beautiful country but I'm thinking a little farther south and a little less mountains. Hang in there brother, it's almost February !! Jim

HEY Amgrunt69, Well cold weather is still here in WV. They say it got up above 30 today, but the highest temp we had was 23. It was 17 the last time I looked. School was out all last week, plus today and tomorrow is cancelled too. My 15 year old grandson who lives with us is loving it, but will pay the price by going to school in June. Main roads are clearing up, but back roads are a problem for school buses. We are in the Western part of the state near Wheeling so the hills aren't as steep and treacherous, but they can be tricky when it snows. This cold weather makes me want to head South again too though.

I worry about being so close to those liberal states and understand why you want out of New York. Taxes alone are a good enough reason to leave, but like others here are saying, if all conservatives jump ship, things will only get worse at least until the libs have to foot the bill.

Best of luck finding a new home.

This is what it is like living in Mass. :BangHead:

hey WVP ! Looks like Georgia is pretty much of a mess today. They're just not prepared or equipped for it because it's such a rarity. I'll have to remember to stay off the interstate down there if an an inch or two of snow is forcast. I 've begun the process, I cancelled my DirecTV. That will help drive me off this mountain. I rode about 80 miles south just to get off the mountain and get my vehicle prepped for a road trip. It was actually 20 degrees warmer here in Oneonta than it was up on that mountain ! Just waiting for the weather to calm down. It might not though. I just heard that the magnetic pole has moved 140 kilometers over the past year and quite a few scientists think that's what's causing these Arctic surges so far south. I think we're all in for a ride. Thanks for the luck ! Jim

Yes Msbeepbeep, NY and Mass are like a set of twins. Jim

Have you decided yet where you're going ? I remember talking about your move back in the beginning and to be honest I haven't kept up. Damn cold here in East Tennessee today and the back roads are snow covered. Must be that "global warming"

Maybe the libs could be enticed to move to Mexico and not our Southern States. We could pay them to go there which would be a lot cheaper in the long run.

New York is trying to attract more people to the state, but it might be too little too late. I've only been here a year and I can' wait to leave.

I used to travel to that area in my work....20 years ago. It is good fishing for musky up there in the St. Lawrence and the lakes too. Nice place to visit but could not live there these days. I remember driving down off a mountain on my way to Ogdensburg and a Porcupine ran in front of me. Big truck was behind me and couldn't slow down. Another truck was in lane beside me. All I could do was straddle the critter with the car and hope for the best. He got caught up underneath the frame for a little while but lived. They said I would have had flat tires if I had run over it.

Amgrunt69' You are right about Georgia not being equipped to handle it. Alabama and Georgia are both having lots of trouble with people stranded on roads. Many Alabama friends did not get home last night and lots of kids had to stay overnight in schools. The good news is that snow does not come all that frequently there. When it does, it is usually bad.

Ya I think that magnetic pole shift may be the "beginning of the end" thing the Aztec calendar was referring to. Science says it has happened in the past.

I hope you find a really great place to live in that you love, and your move is smooth and safe! GL

HI NHB. Haven't decided specifically, just planning to check out all the areas in the Southeast that have been recommended. NE Tennessee, the Carolina's, Georgia. Yes, they have been getting some pretty nasty weather down South, but like I say to all the New Yorkers who like to point that out to me, It's the exception, not the rule. It just warmed up to the 30's and we're poised to get another 6-12 inches of snow Tues night into Wednesday. Just waiting for the weather to break to put my junk into storage. Thanks for your interest. Jim

It]s a good thought WVP, but unlikely to happen. Look at the bright side, they're easy enough to spot and subsequently avoid.

Jim

Hello wswhitting. It certainly doesn't take long does it? I can't believe I've stayed this long, Jim

Hey WVP, while it's never happened to me, they tell me them porcupines like to chew on tires too! Hard too imagine that those poor people were stranded for days on the interstate. We deal with this crap all the time up here. I don't think they'll be caught with their pants down next time though. Not after what they just went through. The weather is changing, it's done it before. At least they might not end up under the next glacier. Jim

Thanks for your concern Msbeepbeep. I agree with you whole heartedly on the pole shift and the Aztec calendar and a lot more of the ancient knowledge that has been lost. Half or more of what they taught us in school is utter nonsense. Like the pyramids being built by a bunch of guys pulling those stones of 20-100 tons with logs and ropes. Those people knew things about astronomy that we've discovered only recently. We live in interesting times.
