Escape from New York

Hello there Junk. You've summed it up very nicely but be careful, they have a new rule on talking about politics. I don't know if you can say the word. We have to tread lightly, wouldn't want to offend anyone. I had the same problem with my wife but after 25 years, she traded me in for a newer model so that's one problem I don't have anymore. The best of luck to you. Jim

The latino women are generally wonderful also…..they are traditional and are happy to be women……society here is like going back 50 or more years in the USSA…..
The growing season is year round here and there is always many fresh fruits and veggies for sale cheap (compared to the USSA)……..
Life is good here……..12 hours sun/day……..temps now in mid-80's going to 90………what is not to like.

Hangin' with my Texas crew
With our blue jeans and ice cold brew

Here, everyone's got kind-of-a- drawel
We say yes sir and yes ma'am.....
and mornin' y'all

We drive big trucks like the 'ol Dodge Ram
And go huntin' and detectin' whenever we can!

There's lots of old houses and weathered old barns
And friendly folk too,

So come on down, we hope to see you real soon.

Hey doc-d ,I'd love to go back 50 years, the 60's were pretty good. Why some of us still had faith in our countries leadership. Of course I would probably HAVE to go back to the 60's to attract one of those Latino women !!

Hi Thrillathahunt

I'll give it a try
But a poet I'm not
I think I'd like Texas
They say it's real hot

Big trucks, old houses ,cold beer
They're all neat
But a friendly invite
That just can't be beat

So I'm packing my gear
I'm planning my route
When you see NY plates
Remember, DON"T SHOOT!!!!!

" Texans all ways move 'em "

Robert E. Lee, Battle of The Wilderness

Older men with younger women are not uncommon is latin america……..
Texas as mentioned is a great state with good old boys who are well armed……..with a considerable veteran population also...

Wait a minute doc-d, you got my attention. What about poor older men? Or should I plan on hanging out with the Texas crew? I have suffered a lack of female companionship since my wife of 25 years traded me in for a newer model. On the other hand maybe I'd be better off with guns and vets. I'm in a quandary.

Why does all this talk of living in a foreign land give me visions of a Bogart/ Bacall flick?

I heard rumors of having to come back to the states every so often just to stay in the system, what's the truth?
I have known many folks that have rightfully bailed from the states and have lived happily ever after.
I only assume that because I have never heard from them again.

There are others who only chase the sun and travel back and forth, Baja, Belize, Honduras, Panama.
The photos I have seen show a simple more wholesome life which cannot be duplicated here in the states.
The treasures I see are a daily "armful of A fish", fruit and a healthy smile, comfortable living.

Kind of hard to argue with!

I'll try to be honest.
It's all about how you fit in.
Are you a Gringo or a Gavacho? (Gabacho)
Can you maintain a slight tan, not draw a crowd, speak good Spanish but with a slight accent confusing as to your original localle.
Gentile mannerisms. smile only with your eyes.

A Gringo is often Milk toast white, sunburned, loud, poor Spanish, with a bad sense of dress. Points A lot!
Socks with huaraches. other English speaking folk avoid you.

Guns, Vets and Mayberry happens to be where I live now in N.C
The kids at the local school don't even lock up their bikes.
And we still leave the back door unlocked.

America still exists even as if it was 30 years ago since you last lived it,
you just have to know where to find it.

I went from Orange/Advocado groves to Tobacco fields
and it was good!

No question I am a gringo with blond hair and blue eyes……but I speak enough spanish……
Poor is relative……having an income of $1000 here would make you middle class and you could live well and no doubt many attractive and younger
latino women would find attractive.

Hi doc-d. Like I just told FCC, it seems my lack of the language would be quite an impediment. Being middle class is attractive, I'll never achieve that again here, in fact, there may not even be a middle class here, the way things are going. As far as attractive, well, that would be stretching things a little. The last three years have been pretty rough on me and I'd probably have to effect some repairs first. I guess if I was to be totally honest, being alone, moving out of the country is pretty scary to me, but the abundant information that you have provided me helps to make an informed decision. Life does sound good down there. Thanks again. Jim

Thanks for the insight FCC. My Lack of Spanish would be a problem for sure, but I'm a gentleman, tan nicely and fortunately don't suffer from any of those other Gringo attributes. Actually, I'm a little introverted at first , and as I get to know people can become the life of the party. That said , as much as I disdain what our governments become , I do love my country and leaving it? I don't know. It seems like if things go bad, you gotta show up. If Mayberry exists in the US, that's where I want to be. I thankyo again for the continuous flow of information. I won't be passing Mayberry by. Jim

Hey Austin, thanks for the invite ! The hardest part of relocating is not knowing anyone or having any 'real " knowledge of where to go. My road trip will probably begin towards the end of January, getting things in order now. Austin looks like a good location, close to everything. Thanks for opening your door to a Yankee!!

The only problem with the South is too many liberal Yankees are moving there. They have about ruined states like North Carolina and are concentrated in Northern Virginia which is ruining that state too.

Interesting discussion. I, too, have been considering moving out of the "Vampire State"(love that). I originally planned on going to Pennsylvania, which is close by, but taxes there are beginning to skyrocket, as I have seen on the news. My wife and I have discussed Georgia--haven't seen anyone mention that in this thread. Anybody have any info to offer on Georgia?( She hates Florida, but we are beginning to have difficulty dealing with cold weather).

I lived in Alabama 20 years but travelled all over Georgia on business for 32 years. South Georgia is plenty hot in the summer. North Georgia would be my preference. They have gold there in streams too. Atlanta is nice place to visit, but traffic is nightmare. But there are decent places on the outskirts of Atlanta. If you want the beach, Amelia island area is said to be great...I was there once. They saw it never had hurricanes either or at least has not had many. That would be a plus.

Hi WVPawpaw. First let me assure you that I don't have one drop of liberal blood in my body. After the weather, taxes and liberals are my main reasons for leaving this state. I'm also aware of the resentment of some Southerners toward us Yankees and quite frankly , I can't blame them. It's something I've taken into consideration. Thankfully , I've received a wealth of information, a cordial response and even a few invites from the Treasurenet family. If a man is judged by his words and actions, I believe I'll fit in nicely. I appreciate the info on Georgia as it is in my main target area and this is the first info I've received. I guess Atlanta is out because I'm definitely looking to escape traffic. It's gotten pretty brutal even in upstate NY. I'm really glad that you brought up the issue of the Yankee liberals invading the South. Some of us Yankees are Rebels at heart. I've received my most honest an unbiased information from the people on Treasurenet and knowing where a person stands could provide even more. Thanks Again. Jim

Thanks WVP. I'm holed up right now. Waiting for the temperature to get back up above 0. Preferably back up in the 30"s. Moving is enough of a hassle , without fighting the cold. I'll be out before the Mud Season though, guaranteed . Boy, it sucks up here. Jim
