The one where no matter what you do, it just seems like one more thing to do?

I thought that if I went for a couple hours of "walking", that I would feel better.

I got there, hit a couple things, and it just didn't feel like fun. (strange)

I only stayed for about 15 mins and just packed up and left.

2014 (247).jpg

Might would have been better if I'd just taken an afternoon nap. :dontknow: LOL

2014 (248).jpg
Was pretty deep down, maybe old. :dontknow:

2014 (249).jpg
Kind of like a valve stem cover, with a handle. At least it has a "W". :dontknow:

2014 (250).jpg 2014 (251).jpg 2014 (252).jpg
This was the most interesting. An ornate hanger of some sort??? :dontknow:

Not a total loss, for me, when I manage two wheaties.
'51 & '16

2014 (255).jpg
There was this piece.
2014 (256).jpg
As far as Blingie knows it's a 24 kt piece of the queen's tiara. (shhhhh)
That's what I had to tell him so he'd unlock the door. But, I think he's on to me. ;)

Just should've listened to my own advice. Be careful not to turn your hobby into "work".

Thanks for peeking!

Yeah - interesting thread ! I've been on hunts where I just felt creeped out by something - the vibe was wrong - I get out of there !
Another experience I've had a few times is almost the opposite - I've been on sites that looked perfect for digging something good ,
and I was convinced that I would find some classic old coins and nothing ! interesting .

I feel that way sometimes. However, not bad for a 15 minute hunt. It usually takes me a good hr to find something decent. The valve is probably a Westinghouse.

a somewhat similar object that I found, but mine is pressed flat

Hmmm, yeah, interesting. Without mine you might never have known it was a hanger. ;) LOL

Neat!

I like you comment don't turn your hobby in to work. Sometimes I make myself go, then get there and don't feel it, I just feel like I HAVE to go every day, have to stop that, and enjoy the days I really want to go, more

Yup, set my digger down in the woods yesterday and walked away from it. Took me 45 minutes to find it and that killed the day. Gave up and went home. Some days you have it and some days you don't. But it's going to be 55 degrees and sunny today, so hope springs eternal!

Even when I'm not feeling it, I try to make the best of it because I don't get out to MD that much! But ya there are just some of those days, like the last time I was out 3 weeks ago. Looking for the ever elusive ring, not happening. Instead end up with a heavy piece of flattened copper pipe 10X3" and weighing 2-3 lbs, and the M6 calls it a penny! Lol!
Had to go home after hauling that back to the truck! That thing would make quite a few pennies!

You are absolutely correct Davers! Down here in the south it is rough with the snakes, gnats, mosquitos and the freakin humidity! I'm ready for late fall/winter already, as far as detecting!

It really depends on what type of finds you have a passion for, ya know? If you just enjoy being out and finding whatever at a park, school, etc. then there's some problems associated with the heat. But, mostly tolerable.

If you're into beach hunting, there are enough ways to make yourself comfortable.

BUT, if Civil War, Colonial, relics, etc., one needs to get into some pretty inaccessible spots. Swampy, woodsy, cellar holes, etc. Right where all those whatnasties live. Heat compounds all of those.

Maybe, treat the hottest days as vacation days? Go walk around a local school, park, find a yard? Ya know?

Unless this "hobby" is paying your bills, I wouldn't work so hard.

HH = "Happy Hunting" not I owe, I owe, so it's off to work I go. ;) LOL

Yeah, a lot of people just don't know how much money they've dug up in "scrap" metal. Take a few minutes to recycle and you might be surprised. Or, at the least, defray the cost of batteries for a while. :)
