Greetings All,
had to bump this back up top,
after reading about CMD Dawgs old Banner US 20 Cent find, I pulled the 20C Chinese I dug on this hunt, as stated in OP, I first saw 'Twenty Cents' through the mud & figured I had an awesome find.
after rinsing and seeing chinese, it went into the 'junk' pocket.
After all, chinese coins are junk, right ? (even 1600s versions)
and any that aren't brass are base metal. (I disregarded the sweet sound it made)
some research this morning reveals that it is a Chinese Silver,
and my T-net search reveals none previously posted,
minted 1912-1918, (previous issues had a nice dragon design)
read below about the construction of the massive mint in Canton (Kwang-Tung)
that produced silver coins 5C to $1 in 1887:

very happy that I rescued this silver from the junk box !
Silver Coins seem to elude my coil, this is my Best yet
I'll take this time to thank Bramble again for the ID on Haitian Copper. Great Digs to You All
Hi All,
Found 2 buttons like I've never seen, openwork would be my best description,
and what I think is a dandy, it's large with some kind of backing like a 2 piece
Two copper coins, one 28mm with no detail, an LC of some sort I imagine.
The other is 30 mm, with a scallop or spoked wheel, would think a britannia shield, but it's in the wrong position, lettering outside a ring and a date of 1780's or 90's.
soaking in oil now, hope for some more details
lots of bottles of many types, haven't been able to photograph all of them, but in nice shape, coming from clay rather than scratchy sand.
dug a coin and through the mud saw 'Twenty Cents' Yee Hah
Was not to be
rinsed it off to find a chinese.
A brass chain with clip & tongs with sliding rosette, what is it ?
New York Navy yard Pin,
1918 'Travel and Transortation building Chicago Worlds Fair' tray, some silver left,
at 3 X 4.5 inches didn't I think I had an NH buckle
.
lead alloy beer stein cover, nice design, wonder how it got folded up ?
many more finds, and more to come.
thanks for looking & HH to you all
