This rock I purchased at a storage sale weighs 2.4 lbs. is non-magnetic. The black on outside of rock maybe tarnish. Used gold and platinum acid test and lost none of the rock , just removed the black outer layer. I have included pictures to give the relative size of the rock.

Two days ago, I helpfully suggested you post your rock in TreasureNet's "Rocks & Gems" forum, where the rockhounds/mineral-collectors/geologists hang out and identify mystery rocks. But you haven't done that. So, as a courtesy to a female new-member, I'll make it easier for you. Here's a direct link to the Rocks & Gems forum:

Thank you I posted in the rock and g area thanks to your link. I have been real busy working and hadn’t got a chance to post it ,so the easy link helped a lot. When I get some free time I will try and take it to ucr geology dept.

You could also take your rock to a nearby college/university's Geology Department.

I have absolutely no idea what it is. No matter what, though, I have to say this is one of the most interesting looking rocks I've ever seen posted here. I was definitely expecting a geode or an agate of some sort when I opened this thread -- was pleasantly surprised that it was something that looks like it's out of an alien lair from a science fiction movie. While for your benefit I do hope it is worth millions of dollars, even if it ends up being something more mundane, I know personally I'd totally put it on my desk or on a shelf at my house. Would be a great conversation piece.

Thank you for taking a look!:icon_thumright: a lot of people are saying it’s astrophyllite. But I am really not sure I need to find out the specific gravity, cause I don’t believe it fits the characteristics. But I plan on making some free time this weekend to find out. Thanks for everyone’s help and again. Still if anyone in so cal knows a good place to take rocks to have them identified or assayed I would really appreciate the info.

Personally I'd look for a local Rockhounding club.
