Went yesterday to take back all my halves and dimes at my other bank, they have one of those nice coin counters. Well I get there early and the girl says She got my two boxes of halves in so I trade in my change and pickem up and head out. I get about half way home and think of what you guys (and gals} say about seeing a Walker or Franklin lookin back at you. I am in heavy traffic so after a few attempts I get the top box open and look at it. Kinda looks funny. Damn all tails lookin up. Then I notice the wrapper looks funny, pull one out and its been opened and has masking tape on it. Both boxes had already been searched, didnt even wait to get home before I called the bank and told the teller that if someone wants to do that they work there so they can order their OWN halves. I was pissed. The previoous boxes (4) had nothing at all in them. She said they sometimes come that way from the Fed. Res. I told her no they dont. The Fed damn sure dont tape rolls together with masking tape. What REALLY made me mad was what was wrote inside one of the boxes.." Bills Pawn Shop" and a phone number. I am mad again thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ouch man.

I would Def. talk to that bank manager.

sorry about your dissapointment bro.

Well that takes the cake man.I can't believe the audacity of that bi%#*! That's it!
>:( We have to take a stand! From now on we have to DEMAND to see the manager, the next time something like this or similar happens. If that fails to produce positive results, then we need to contact the district and/or regional manager of the bank.If that doesn't work, close your account and open up a new one or better yet open up a new one and give this bank ALL of your coins. These tellers need to be stopped.Who the hell does she think she is going through boxes of coin that you order and acting like she has the right to cherrypick 'em? And an idiot to boot! Who the heck is gonna go to a pawn shop to sell coin! Retarded freak! Take a stand.Make a scene! I refuse to be pushed around by these barely above minimum wage working, functionally illiterate imbiciles any more!

Hey diggum, but how do you "really" feel !! ;) ;)

Im with ya bro's, that is ridiculous. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if
this is illegal ? You placed an order for sealed coin from the Fed. Its yours, paid for
by your money. You would think that other people or employees would NOT be able to
open your purchased goods, and take stuff. Maybe Im wrong, but Im betting bank Managers
would NOT allow or condone this. Definitely make a fuss about it. Thats BS in any case.

This kinda brings up a good idea for those running into problems. Have the discussion with the
bank teller/manager when setting up to order, and make a firm understanding that if you order coin,
its YOUR coin, and expect it to be untampered with. If they agree, then they really have no
option than to leave your boxes alone. I plan on using this exact scenario with any future
orders from other banks.

Good luck with your situation - I agree with the others , to not just let it go. If you want to order
coin from that bank, you dang well should be able without worrying about this type of thing. Id
definitely recommend a little agreement/discussion taking place. Especially letting the manager
know. Just hope the manager isnt one of the culprits /yikes

Were the boxes sealed with the packing tape that the Federal Reserve uses or the armored car companies? Or did it look like the boxes had been opened and resealed? The only reason I ask is that I have received several boxes that are sealed and inside are rolls that have been opened on one end. I know it's not the bank I'm getting them from, but I believe that the companies that pick up the coin from the banks is not re-wrapping all of the rolls and just putting them into a new box and sealing them. I think there are so many coin roll hunters now that they are getting tired of having to re-roll/re-wrap the coins. I don't see how they should legally be able to do that, but I see it done where I live! You have no idea if the person that searched the halves before you has put the correct amount back in the rolls.

Do your halves come in the brown box with $500 printed on the side in black? The wrappers are white with grey print/trim? Or are you getting the boxes with the holes and the wrappers have yellow print?

A couple of the banks had tellers that told me that they saved coins as well, so sounds like somebody went thru yours.

First four boxes were the yellow with the holes. These yesterday were the others grey trim stacked 5X5X2. I noticed when i got them that the tape had been cut. THought maybe they just looked in to make sure it was a full box.
I did order two more boxes and if there opened, I will just walk off and leave them.

You should read some of my rants on these posts..... I had this one bank say they were going to order me halfs and then when I called to see if they were in they said they didn't order them and if I did want to order them it was going to cost .60 per roll. I was pissed to say the least. But thats ok..... I showed up there today Friday about 4:30 with $2000 in halfs in 2 bags. Cash back please!!!!! I talked to the girl who said she would order me the halfs and she explained it wasn't her.... it was her manager. I just said "thats no big deal..... If she doesn't want to give me the coin Ill just bring them back here." I kinda felt sorry for the poor guy who got stuck with all my change, he was having a heck of a time...... He was asking if I wanted to order more halfs. I told him "your manager said I can't." He offered to find out what the problem was but I just said "dont worry about it... there are other banks that will get them for me" He replied; "well I would think that if other banks were doing this for you we could to." I just replied.... "yeah you would think." It makes me feel bad that they can have such nice customer service oriented people working at a branch and it takes just one to totally spoil it.

ohh..... and they kept on encouraging me to go talk to the branch manager. Not in a bitchy way either. I thought about it but decided not today.

One problem I haven't had to deal with yet. Mine come in a square box, 5X5X2, white and brown wrappers, and the box is GLUED shut. Several times I have gotten a box that looked like it was dropped or tampered with. Before I couldsay anything, the teller offered to open it and count the rolls for me!

Good service.

And the other bank where I drop off, all the tellers are interested in hearing about what I found! It helps to deal with people who have good attitudes, and it goes both ways, too. I've been frustrated before at banks I no longer do business with, but I let them know exactly why I wouldn't be doing business with them anymore in a coutesous, professional manner.

I just rant to you guys, LOL! ;)

OK, they were definitely searched and most likely by the teller. I also wonder if someone had returned those two boxes to that bank and then sold them to you. I hope your next boxes are sealed and you find some silver!

Of course, you can catch more bees with honey.Just make sure your pouring the vinegar down their throat at the same time. ;) I just sound maniacal on here. ;D ;D ;D For the record,i've never had a problem with rolls received, always sealed, never tampered with.Always from the Fed.Res..

I was told by a vault teller that another branch has $3500 halves. So I went to the branch and asked for halves. They disapear for about 20 mins. Not sure what they were doing, but when they came out the box was opened. All looks well till I asked to flip one over, yup, all opened. I declined and instead asked for a sealed box, they said there was none. So, i asked for a sealed box of nickels. they disappeared and came back with my sealed box of nickels in about a minute. I am sure there was more silver in the one war nickel i found then all their halves.

I too have gotten boxes that have been opened and unrolled and retaped. However, I dont think its always the tellers. I know some folks unroll their rolls on one end and then replace them once they are done searching. then they tape the box up and give it back to a different bank. Its not always the tellers. And so far, Ive found the vast majority have been nice and friendly.

Oh I have met way more nice tellers than nastie ones. I also have a pretty darn good collection of vinyl money bags with the banks logo as well as some of the plastic stackable racks that holds rolls of coins. Many banks will order me as many boxes as I want and I have even ordered boxes from a number of banks that I dont even have an account at.

Ditto the last few posts on this thread. I've met far many more nice, and genuinely helpful tellers than not.

Not only have I reaped a large pile of silver, proofs and coins I was still missing over the last seven plus weeks; but also some canvas as well as heavy vinyl coin bags.

I agree. A smile, a hello and pleasant attitude go along way.

I ordered 2 boxes and when I got them they were opened. I didnt think much about it till I got them home and found they were all gone through. I rewraped them and boxed them up and took them all back to the bank I got them. I told her if I ever receive another opened box I would start depositing all 4 boxes a week back here.
Just a little understanding between us. She made me promice never to bring my coins back to her and I have never received another opened box from them.

I can agree with you on this.I for one reroll my halves in the same roll they came in and tape the box back up redeposit them at another bank.As for the tellers, your also right, the vast majority of them are nice, friendly and helpful and always have a smile on their face. There is always that exception to the rule though.Read this-http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,69226.0.html.Happened to me last Tuesday. This is totally out of line to say the least.Just so you guys know where i'm coming from here with my response to this thread. :)

I am totally lost with this post.Maybe I just have the worst banks near me or the worst tellers in the country, but when you guys are saying you tell them you will bring all your rejects to their bank or all 4 boxes a week to deposit as a "threat" I would figure they would tell you right then about the charges to deposit coin.

I tried this with the bank that wouldn't order for me anymore unless I paid $5 per box and paid for all the boxes I had already gotten for "free" because as they told me no customers get coin for "free" everyone pay's the fee.

Well when I brought back a bunch of rolls to deposit there they told they would charge me for every roll I brought in or per box if I chose to do it that way.So I can't even use them for a dump bank either.

It's been over a week without a box and I am really suffering,it is amazing how this hobby affects us,mentally.I am seriously considering paying the fee, just to keep up with my addiction, because I am really feeling the effects here.

I have since tried to open accounts at other banks and tried the "honest" route telling them what I needed the coin for before I went through the hassle of opening the account and they all told me I would have to pay some sort of a fee, they haven't gotten back to me yet with what "their" fee's are.

For the people on this board who pay a fee for either ordering a box or for returning coin could you please respond here with what the rates are?I am very curious as to what others are paying across the country.Thanks...schramm...

None for me, but I use a credit union.
