Ever wonder how those coins & metal objects got that deep?

I live in California in a town that is predomoniantly heavy clay. No matter how much rain we get the ground in our area splits and cracks very bad during the summer. In the winter when rain comes it closes up but summer is really bad as you can see.

we had the same ground conditions here all summer in north Texas. I work for my cities parks department and the parks were full of deep cracks in the ground. We went almost 3 full months with less than 1 inch of rain...We have had a good amount of rain in the last 2 weeks which have pretty much sealed all the cracks now though.

Climates change over lifetimes and floods make things come and go. Doesn't look like any chance of dead vegistation covering things. Frank
