Excalibur finally gives up the bling! :) My first gold!

Today was my fourth trip out to the small local beach with my new Minelab Excalibur 1000. I had found 6 rings prior to today, 5 junk and one sterling silver. My first dig of the day was my first ever piece of gold found while detecting

It's a thin 10k band weighing in at a HEFTY .95 grams, haha. Not a huge amount of gold, but it's nice to finally break the ice.

I found it right up by the shore line in about foot deep water. My only other non trash find of the day was the el cheapo evil looking snow man earing that is pictured.

Really nice looking ring,reminds me of my wedding band, I bet you have more water spots up there than you may think. Start asking the old timers around there about the old swimming holes they used to go to as a kid. With modern irrigation all we see are little creeks here and there,back in the day a lot of creeks would be a lot deeper in areas than they are today. A lot of the research Ive been doing is old swimming holes. Ive found 3 so far that are near me but are so overgrown with weeds I havent attempted to try any of them yet. Back in the day kids would swim in creeks especially near major roads,all the stuff they dropped is still laying there too. I always have extra time to stand around and yack with any old person I may happen upon.Ive been going over and picking my papaws brain every chance I get as well, they arent going to be around a whole lot longer and they are just bursting with very valuable information that you just cannot get anywhere else and when they are gone so are all the wonderful places that they once knew.

I hunt beaches almost all the time. I've found 4 gold rings and 8 silver rings so far this summer. Only one gold ring was found in damp sand. The other three, and all men's wedding bands, were dropped in the upper dry sand.

Way to go on your first gold ring. I have the Excal 800 and I've found some fantastic gold rings with it, including a platinum ring. You can pay for your detector with one nice ring, so keep it up!
