well to start with i dug this up on tuesday while hunting with my friend jack, thought it was older from looking at the back but the front of it was caked with red clay, i finally cleaned it last night the front matches civil war era it says "excelsior under the eagle and has thirteen stars around the rest of it, the back is different from any pictures i have found, sorry the pictures are not the best only had my cell and a loop, it's and odd find for northern wisconsin any help would be great. thanks for looking

Looks almost like a Turret style loop shank instead of a wire loop shank, can't tell without clearer pictures. . .

That is a nice post war NY button. I have yet to find a single post war button. All I find are those dawg gone Civil War buttons LOL. Any button that is over 100 years old and you dug it, makes a great find.
