Good morning T-Net'ers-

I was able to do some hunting on Friday and Saturday. Didn't find much in the old coin department, but the detecting gods offered up a bunch of interesting buttons, and one strange token.

I believe that the first button is a Civil War era New York state militia button. It's in pretty good shape, with the word "Excelsior" easy to see.

The next button is a small, gilded eagle button

The third button is my favorite! Very unusual, and I would guess it dates to the mid-late 1800's

Last but not least is a unusual " Good Luck" token, advertising Smith's Copper" dental cement, circa early 1900's .

Thanks for looking! Scott.

Great finds - the Token should clean up real nice !

The Swastika was widely used by organizations and companies as a good luck symbol.
Even the Boy's Scouts used it.

Good Hunting !

I think your eagle button is from the Indian Wars (post civil war, pre-1900). Here's one I found a few weeks ago; before and after I hit it with lemon juice. Your's looks like it has a lot of gold, just be sure to watch it and brush it off every few minutes if you decide to soak it. Rinse well in H2O when you're happy with the result to neutralize the acid.

Good finds!

You do have a CW era NY militia
I agree that the eagle is post war
And the good news is that your fancy open work button is a lot older than you thought - late 1700s

Thanks for the good news Steve! I had no idea that my fancy button was quite that old.

And thanks for the ID on the eagle button NZ49er! I'm hoping that my " before and after" pics turn out as good as yours.
