Excited....but can't identify...

This coin feels like copper but doesn't look like the "coppers" I have found. There seems to be a profile looking left...It is banged up on edges...not round. Found in historic area in RI in field. Any ideas? Thanks. KIm

I have tried retaking photos and have tried lighting from the side and so far, this is the best I can get. It does look like on the obverse that there is a hint of "I I" to the right of the head. On the reverse there looks like a "V" which could be part of the "N" in "BRITAN" close to the head at the top making it the older head which would make it 1740-1754 (vs. 1729-1754). Great suggestions everyone. More photos later...I am so tired. After detecting for 2 hours..finding not much..then grabbing another hour to find this fabulous coin...I had to go back since I got a day off and spent another 5 hours hoping for more of the same but did not...I am thrilled none the less...'Night all!

Glad to see you narrowed it down a bit. Ahab's suggestion works great, but definitely takes some finesse at first.
