Dad & I were debating where to try for a couple of hours. I decided we would try a field which I had tried to detect but it was too rough. On my wonder back to the flatter field I had found an eyes only 1719 dump halfpenny. A rare find even with the detector. I thought this field may yeild older finds.

It was now flat enough to do & I started about 10 runs off the edge of the field & asked Dad to try about 3 runs off the edge. I started with a pistol shot, then a lead token & towards the corner on the very edge of my right hand swing (nearly missed it) out popped a cica 1000BC Bronze Age Axe Tip :o My oldest find by 1000 years. Dad had our first Bronze Age axehead (complete) only this year. Now 2 in a year when we have had no others in all the years we have detected. ;D

We searched the area around it without anything else.

Sometimes they ritually broke the axes (this is an old break), but maybe broken in the wood & lost. Might be another burial as its on the hill??

Dad got 1 scrappy Roman Coin & a medieval cloth seal.

It's the arm/hand of an old clock.

Dude, it isnt fair...Ya'll have the Celtics, Anglo-Saxons, Romans, Royalty through the centuries etc etc. We in America dont have it like that. Our soil hasnt been trodded on for thousands of years by different peoples and cultures. I would expect you to find these great things there! ;)

I like the broken axe, that is VERY cool! ;) ;)

Great finds by you and your dad. It is always interesting to see and read your posts. You must do much research on your finds to know what they are. I would not have had a clue what that broken axe head was. Keep up the great work and postings.

I agree...You are very good at what you do. Thank you for sharing history with us in the USA. I am awed at what you find every time you post.

This is a reminder: This country was not devoid of humanity until it was "discovered" by Christopher Columbus. We have a lot of cool history here too-although, I have to agree, the Roman stuff is WAY COOL ;D

WEll I could tell you what my dad use to say...but I wont go there. Suffice to say that I am not talking pre-history arrow heads and tips and stone tools. I am talking about Western Civilization coins, bronze items, clips, etc. etc.
Trust I know that North America has a pre-history (before written history/Western discovery). I have a Bachelors Degree in Pre-Law (Political Science) and a Masters in History ;) Thanks, but no reminder needed ;)
