Explored Another Gold/Silver Mine

I had high hopes for this place. Established in the 1860's it was even the county seat. Not much of the original ground remains and is now an open-pit mine.
It was fun hiking around and checking out the little of it that's left though.

Not much to show for the effort.

Dave and I had high hopes for that place too. Like you, we just didn't find a whole lot. We think it was probably hit pretty hard by others over the years.

Dave and I had high hopes for that place too. Like you, we just didn't find a whole lot. We think it was probably hit pretty hard by others over the years.

Likely LOTS of people over the years watching the needle determining what to dig and what not to dig. A dig everything effort usually eventually rewards.

We don't have any gold mines in the UK. Our best hope of finding gold is from ship wrecked treasure that gets washed up along the coast. Great photos btw. If I lived where you do I probably wouldn't go detecting as I'm petrified of snakes.

Realistic fears is one thing, but you have to step back a bit to see the big picture. It's like when people give me the business about riding motorbikes: a little over 6,000 deaths in the US in 2025 from motorbikes, but over 100,000 from type 2 diabetes. The refrigerator is far more dangerous than a motorbike.
In the US, only 5-10 people die from snake bites each year.
Perspective.

Thank you for the welcome @oldmxrat When you say it like that I see your point in terms of perspective But I'm still scared of snakes and would probably fall off a motorbike because I'm short 🙂

Probably, but, we hiked all over that place and didn't see a one. Only a few harmless lizards.

Here in the western US, the people that are bitten by venomous snakes are usually the stupid ones that try and capture them.
However of the people bitten, there are a good percentage of innocent people that get bitten by reaching down into the dark unknown (I would guess).
