eyeballed copper sheathing on Treasure coast beach.

Sure Salvor6. Here are a couple I have found, the 1st one I am 99% sure is 100% copper due to its very green color:

Here is a piece of modern copper roof flashing i found at douglas beach after the 2004 hurrycanes. It still has some roofing tar on it leaking out oil.The wood with the copper plate and nails still attached is part of a rudder post found on the beach at the cape after the 2004 hurrycanes.copper1.webpcopper2.webpcopper3.webp

Do you have any other light sorce where you took the photos? That might help. I suppose you might be able to find some rigging at a construction site too. That must be it.. I found a construction site! Thanks... See the small round holes In your piece?

Tell me how what you have posted looks like this.

I really don't see why some of you want to squabble over a little piece of copper. some of you act like it's something new to find a piece of sheating from a wreck. I've spent the last 30 years living on the Treasure Coast. during that time I've either been on or near the water so much I'm surprised I don't have gills. I'm going to be moving on.... if you want it to be a piece of construction debris I will say that it is regardless of the evidence OK.

My pic was posted to show you that copper sheathing/flashing is still being used on houses. You said that in all your construction experience that you never had seen it put on houses before.Well heres your proof.I have been building custom houses here in florida since the early 80's and we put it on 4 houses in Heathrow Fl at the customers request and expense. No holes needed as it is attached with hot tar.

What I said was in twenty years of construction I had not seen it used in my area. At least that's what I meant and the flashing was completely not a necessary subject in my post to begin with. By the way.... why are you keeping a piece of junk roof flashing since "04" ???

I keep all my ferrous and non ferrous metal finds. And heres a pic of a dock in vero beach that has copper on the tops of pilings.Number 1 copper is not junk.its worth well over $3.00 a pound.Saving up large amounts of copper is better than money in the bank.

Good night and hope you find alot of copper this has become a bit much. I don't have a piece of a dock.. I don't have a piece of a roof..
I'm not going to go on and on with you about it. Unsubscribing now. 3 dollars a pound ...good grief..do you keep aluminum cans too? happy hunting. P.s. I just looked at your posts all the way back to Columbus replica ships and haven't seen a single find...don't you think posting a photo of YOUR "real" copper sheathing would be more productive than this? I will check back to see some of yours.

Great finds Gatorboy. Keep up the good hunting and don't let some disagreements on this thread keep you away.

.......just wanna say....many on here myself included have collections that would blow the doors off most museums and would not post a "find",if our lives depended on it....posting finds should not be how we judge ones merit

Hard to take a faceless avitars word with zero proof don't you think. I wouldn't expect anyone to post a museum... unless you're hiding from the law and extremely paranoid a few pieces of history is not that big of a deal. I would leave the silver and gold out.. I wasn't judging Merritt... I was making an observation based on the lack of evidence to support his claims of knowledge. I could post exerpts from historical documents and make most everyone on here belive it came from experience.

........I wasnt attempting to be combative, but I see thats the type of person you are...so I will leave it at that. Some people dont have to show off to prove their intelligence.......

Believe me..
What I posted was nowhere near showing off. I would hardly say asking for proof of the theory is questioning someone's intelligence.

Do you really believe that posting artifacts in a forum is showing off? Well I guess you're right..
That is the kind of person I am. You guys should loosen up a little this is supposed to be enjoyable. I love the way that what I do mixes outdoorsmanship and a love for history.. I didn't realize that posting finds on treasurenet was just showing off. ...... lighten up.

Bud,I think you are totally mis reading what I was saying......I have no clue about your sheathing....I too have found it...miles away from any water...but it is indeed ship sheathing...but that is another story.I was refffering to your statement about one posters lack of posting finds....thats all.You can post away,I love pictures, and I think I add a bit of knowledge to certain periods just as you do.I learn along the way as well...just as you do...I do not post finds any longer though....that practice has merely worked against me in a BAD way :icon_thumright:

Thank you for clarifying. I did take that a bit wrong."showing off" ....those were your words... Also I'm sorry to hear that something negative happened as a result of sharing in a forum environment. I appreciate your input greatly and thoroughly enjoy the wealth of knowledge available here.
