Looks like some sort of fish or mermaid shape.

Great finds!!, Looking back in my notes I was on Douglas back in 04 when the three hurricanes passed through FL. I found copper sheath back then. Beaches were cut big time. Not as big as your pieces but encrusted and well beaten. Maybe nit from the 1715 fleet but I believe from an old wreck! Keep up the good work HH

Thanks..yup those had lead. I have some of that from up north of here. And also have copper that looks almost like it's florescent green. There were alot of wrecks thats for sure.

Here is a nice piece for show and tell..LOL. that's from a different area. You guys that know your stuff will know that its middle style and how narrow the date range is on the marked ones. If someone else has found the same mark I would love to hear from you.

Interesting for sure...thanks.

Haha..thanks

Not to drag this copper sheathing on and on, but I found a piece today almost exactly like the one Gator showed in the first post. So you guys are saying its more modern, even with the square nail holes? My piece has the green patina on it, its bent of course with same type of holes.
My question is, how do you know if it is shipwreck or just got ripped off a piling?

Have you seen any pilings in the Atlantic ocean within 50 miles of there? Not me. People say all kinds of things in these forums... you should see the number of shipwrecks along this section of coastline that would have had copper sheeting... there's more of those then pilings.

No, can't say that I have. Hopefully, someone can explain the diff between what some consider more modern and what is from a shipwreck. I did not think we used square nails any more!

I'm walking out the door, but a quick reply is that the copper content can determine its age. In 1832, zinc and tin were added to the copper.
As you mentioned, little tiny holes where nails were used visually helps in the identification.

Hey you..thanks for the input. :-)

I don't know how to describe very well what I think I see..
But.. I keep seeing Mother Mary Holding baby Jesus in front of her bending her head over looking down. I also have a big imagination so who knows Mabey I'm looking to hard.

BeachComber7 can you post a picture of the piece you found?
