If you like me get false readings, check to see if there is any play anywhere. My lower stick has some play, and after talking with BH, they suggested a wrap of black tape. I'm going to try that, if that don't work, guerilla glue.

Tried the black tape, and realize it is the snap adjustment that is causing the unit to move a bit and give false readings. Dug several good sounding silver hits that showed 8"+ only to have them disappear. Waiting on the gorilla glue to dry right now, and then the heat to die down and I will give it a go.

Interesting, talking about the play at the joint when the button is in the last hole, (as long out as it will go)?

Yes, but mine is in the second from the bottom

Update, just did a field test at a small playground and grass area, got some nice readings, but with softball practice happening I decided to just make sure I got no false silver hits. The good news, no false silver hits, and no false hits. The glue did the trick and stiffened the shaft. Looking forward to tomorrow to do some serious detecting in the town park

Today was fantastic, no false readings, reliable sounds that were able to be pinpointed.

Yup. Play between the upper and lower rod can cause coil-falsing at the end of the swing. My 3300 did the same thing. I swapped out my upper rod without the lock-ring collar to one that had the collar. WORLD of difference. BBJ

That is what Gabe me the idea, when you were telling me about your 3300
