We went camping this weekend with one of our daughters and her family. My granddaughter went metal detecting with me in the 2 swimming areas that were in the park where we camped. The details of the whole hunt will be in my weekly Treasurenet post later.
While my granddaughter was detecting on one of the beaches in shallow water while I was detecting the deep water in the other area, a woman approached her asking if she found a ring. She said she hadn’t, but that her grandfather was detecting in the other swimming area and they came over and asked me. Her husband had lost the ring the day before in the area where I was detecting. She described the gold ring I had found about an hour before and pinpointed the location where it had been found correctly. I pulled the ring out of my pouch and she immediately got a big smile on her face and called her husband to tell him the ring had been found. She wanted me to talk to her husband, but without my hearing aids (they don’t do well in the water and the tones sound different with the hearing aides so I don’t wear them detecting anyway) so my granddaughter talked to him. He could’nt believe the ring had been recovered. He thought when he lost it while swimming it was gone forever.
The ring is gold and has a small blue diamond in it. It originally belonged to his grandparents and it was passed to his parents who put their wedding date in it. When he got married it was passed to him. So a family heirloom that will continue to be passed down in the family. I didn’t see a marking inside except for the inscription, but my jeweler friend has told me that Asians like high purity jewelry and most of their rings are 22k. Since this has been around awhile there is a good chance it is 22k.

Finding the ring was exciting, because they finds overall where poor on this trip and making the return and seeing the joy it brought them gave me a boost. My granddaughter was happy and excited as well.
It’s funny how things work out sometimes. Normally I do the water where this ring was found on Saturday when we camp at this park. Because they are doing construction and the parking lot near this beach is closed it has not been as crowded as the other beach. So I started on the other beach and saved this one for today, Sunday hoping there would be losses on Saturday for me to find today. ,If I had done this beach first the ring would not have been there to find in the morning and when the lady came today I would not have had time to go back and look for the ring because we have to stop detecting at 9 am at this time of year (park rules and regs have to be followed if you want to continue metal detecting). My wife says it was ment to be and she is right. Right place, right time makes the difference.
This is non class ring jewelry return number 19. With the 20 class rings I have returned that makes 39 returns. Not bad for an old man in my opinion. My post for the week will follow soon with all the finds for the weekend (WET JEWELRY FROM THE PARKS INCLUDING GOLD).
