Hello again.

I was wondering if someone could identify this point for me. It is 1 inch and 3 quarters long, by 1 inch and 1 quarter inch wide, and is just slightly over 1 quarter of an inch thick. Is this an arrowhead, a spearpoint, a knifeblade?? How old is it??

I also would like to know about these clay balls that I have been finding. They are so numerous that I find it hard to believe they can be artifacts. Are they some sort of industrial material? They have cloth impressions that I have included pictures of. I have included pictures of two sizes, however, I have been finding them in four sizes. The sizes not shown would be marble size, and pea size. Some of them are a purplish color all the way through, and some are whitish on the inside, and purplish on the outside. Please help, and Thank you in advance

Neat finds. I wish I could help you with the ID, but I have no experience with artifacts. Lots of knowledge on these forums and looking forward to their posts.

It may help to give a region it was found in for ID....it kind of looks like the pictures I've seen of a Newnan, which I believe are from FL and surrounding areas....just a guess though.

I agree with joe nice find looks like a Newnan point ;)

I might not be from your area but am interested in the white round ones as to what they are. Might be milling balls but I have never seen any before in hand.

It looks to be a South Prong Creek which is a Georgia point and found in similar styles in other areas 3000 to 4000 yrs old. The clay balls not sure. Are they hard, are they very brittle, do they show sign of being heated. Sometimes nature will make things like that, were they found in a creek. The design on the bottom of one is strange.:dontknow:Cool finds.HH

I met a guy that owned some land here where I live at and he told me he has a collection of 300 game balls he found on his property before he sold it. All are white except for one black one. I havent seen them but would like too. I have a friend that has 2 made from marble that are white just a bit bigger than a golf ball.

If that point was found in Florida it would be called a Putnam.
The shoulders of Newnan points slope downward most of the time.. a few examples are fairly straight but never upward.
It was likely used with an atlatl.

I do not believe that is not a FL point. It looks like a spearpoint that has been resharpened due to tip damage (impact?!) In FL it would be an archaic stemmed point but who knows in your area. I suspect your area is west of FL. but not far.
The clay balls do look like they have been fired. Cooking balls? Could have easily made them much rounder, more perfect if was going to use for gaming or marbles..

Travelerga, Thank you for posting the ID link. That was very gracious of you & I found it very interesting. Kat :)
