Far East Texas (Center, Shelbyville area)

Hi yall!!!! We moved up to the Shelbyville area and was wondering if anyone on the forum was from the area. I am presently working outside of Chicago and will be headed home for a few weeks during Christmas. I am looking for a hunting buddy and some good areas to check out. I dont want to pirate anyones spot just some ideas as to where to hunt and to meet up with some fellow Tnetters in the area. I appreciate it. Thanks, TMAN...

BTW, I have 1912 Sanborn for Center, which is only 15 miles or so from you if you are interested. I can look some places up for you.

BTW, I have 1912 Sanborn for Center, which is only 15 miles or so from you if you are interested. I can look some places up for you.

That would be sweet and I would greatly appreciate it. I have looked on the Sanborn map site and there arent any for my part of Texas. I told my wife that I was gonna bring all my detectors home and said maybe she could go with me and she said "oh yeah". SO if I can get a couple of spots lined up and she can find that silver stuff that would be great. Thanks again for the offer. TMAN...

there was a wwII pow camp a few miles east of shelbyville at a place called ragtown if you could locate it would prob. be a good place to start also many sawmill and cotton gin sites,1 old school site at clevercreek and newville.the old circus site was on the ross property just east of eastcenter in the curve going to shelbyville, all i can think of for now i grew up in center in the 50s so memory is not so good now. whitt459

Thanks Wit, I know where ragtown is. I live about 10 minutes from there. I need to find some old topo maps of the county to see where some of these other sites are. I may check out the county museum and see what they have. Thanks for the ideas. SMAN...
