"FARM CLEARING SALE, I PURCHACED A 1877 RIFLE [POLICE ISSUE]"

Hi all,I worked away for a couple of days, at a place called Cohuna.Cohuna is a rural country town and is about a 100 miles from home.We finished the work early so i went to a Farm clearing sale.These old farms have so much great stuff.I spotted this 1877 Colony of Victoria Government police issue rifle.The rifle is a 450 cal. henry martini 1877.I believe i got for a real cheap price but i didn,t have enough money left to buy any of great old relics for sale.No licence is required to own such guns. I real happy with my find , i mean purchace. lol

Nice! We're starting to see an increase in "warehoused" Martini-Henry from various sources, mostly from India.

thats pretty cool, i believe my great,great grandfather fought against the Zulu, I'llhave to do a family tree, before my great aunt passes, from Scottland he was, with a last name of Thompson it may be difficult.

Being a C&R licensed collector I can tell you that is a ver nice specimen of that model rifle. In what kind of condition is the bore?

I spotted this 1877 Colony of Victoria Government police issue rifle.

I would contact the Brits and see if you can track down more history on the peice. Maybe it was issued to someone of note, which would inevitably make it worth more.
