Farm Hunt - A couple of "First Finds" for Me!!!

Hello Tnet Friends, :hello:

I got permission from a friend a couple of weeks ago to hunt the property his farm sits on. He lives in the small town of Marlbank, Ontario, his family's lived in this town for at least 150 years! There's even a cemetery named after their family on the main road into town! :laughing7: I got in about 4 hours of hunting yesterday until the sun went down. I need to go back again as there's an old tobogganing hill in his backyard, apparently a lot of the neighbourhood kids used it from the 1940's onwards! I spoke to his Mom & Dad while I was there and they suggested, "I might want to hunt the foundations of an old farm house that sits on their property down the road! :notworthy:

My friends house was built around 1900 or there abouts, but there's obviously been quite a bit of previous activity here in the past 150 years! :icon_thumright: A number of "firsts" for me here . . . a "three ringer" and a crotal bell to name a few of my finds. I also found a horse harness buckle and a very small buckle with a date of 1870 on it. It also had some other printing which I can't quite make out. If any of you buckle experts out there can help tell me what this buckles use was, I'd really appreciate it! :icon_thumright:

Thanks for looking and have a great long weekend everyone! :hello2:
Dave

I think they saw how meticulous I was about filling in and repairing my holes and they just offered to let me hunt their other properties! :icon_thumright: I couple of weeks ago I offered to help find my friends mother find a ring she lost it at her elementary school back in the early 1960's. I hunted the 1870's school yard for 2 hours, but never did find it! :-\

Have a nice weekend Glen,
Dave

My buddy told me that, "his grandmother use to find coins in the garden all the time", but I didn't find any coins in the 4 hours I was there! :'(
Thanks very much JW,
Dave

Awesome finds Antiquarian.

We really do have to be meticulous. That is a great word to use when asking for permission.

Hi Dave !
This buckle was to adjust the straps in back of the vests, is 19th early 20th century, I have some , but is difficult to find complete because they are very dim and break easily.

Thank you very much for the link Hispan! :icon_thumright: That's my buckle alright! ;D
I'd like to try and flatten mine out, but as you mentioned, "they are very dim and break easily."

Here are a couple of pictures I just took of my buckle following a 10 minute bath in hot peroxide! :laughing7:

I thought about trying to straighten her out, but I'm more concerned about damaging it further!

Thanks for your post.
