I like the button! Most of those numbered French buttons seem to hold up very well.

While giving a site away is not generally advised, A region is often helpful for identification.

Nice finds!!

I have a button identical to the one on the left side of the second photo grouping. I was told it was a colonial button referred to as a turtle back button. I am in the SE part of Virginia, USA. What do you know of this button? Thank you.

Keep Digging!!

Called a Turret back (shank), and the button dates about Rev War, or just after. My Rev button book does not having a listing for this unit so I'm guessing it did not see service in North America. Many of these type date to the French Revolution so could be the case for it. I would think a Google search should turn something up for the history.

hi, i didn't know it was a button until now....thinking about it,i'm a chef and we use a popper style button on our tunics...probably the same principle...i've got no info to tell you...maybe the 5 is a clue to something....all i know is the french and austrians had a bunch of encounters along the river area and then a big one about 25 miles down stream.

The pewter type 'knob' is thought to be off the top of an 18th C Tea caddy, but could be a very small drawer pull.

Really cool stuff. The bigger bullet is a mid1800's French bullet that is sometimes dug in civil war camps in the US. That bad boy books for about $150.00. The brass piece with the 5 looks like a brass spool to a sword belt rigs we find in civil war camps in the US.
