My buddy invited me to a site he scouted out the previous weekend. The location was a late 1800’s early 1900’s site, but LIDAR also showed a depression (likely cellar hole) off the path on the way to the site.

Well we found the very old hole, no visible stones or bricks, and found so many targets that we will need to schedule a return visit to hit the actual target site. It was his first hunt with the Nox 800, his first target was a dandy button and first coin was a 1806 Half Cent... his day only got better from there...

I’ve found over 60 Indian Head Pennies, several of them being the fatty variety, but never the 1857/58 Flying Eagle until Saturday. Yeah, bucket lister!

Also found a 182x Matron Head Largie and a Merc.

Found a bunch of buttons including a tombac and a CW Eagle I.

Some nice clasps.

Misc relics.

And of course a variety of spoonage.

My favorite relic is this ornate watch winder.

Good luck out there!

Awesome hunt! Congrats on the flying eagle!

Sweet Find. Also a load of other goodies! Your definitely in the right spot. Keep Swinging!!

Nice digs,

The flying eagle doesn't come up often and they are usually toasted around here.

Nice site untouched looks like it was an early 1800's site.

My brother popped an 1830's eagle button yesterday with a beautiful black patina on it.

I found a few nice items yesterday also.

I love them kind of places just relics every where with no trash.

Yeah the watch winder is nice.

Jer

Nice hunt! He texted last night and told me about his first Equinox outing. Sounds like they are gonna get along pretty well! Congrats on the FE to man.

Congrats on the FE Thad. They are tough to find, I can only think of 3 that I've found. I bet Louis was excited to find the half cent with his new Nox, but it sounds like the site is so loaded that just about any machine could find stuff.

Thx Jer! Yeah, it was my kind of site. Not a single pull tab, so any non ferrous signal had a good chance to be an oldie.

Thx John! It was great to see him have such quick success. I’ve thought him the basics, up to you to teach him how to sniff out those impossible silvers.

Thx Steve! He was beyond excited. I think if his ATP was working properly and he focused on the cellar he would have definitely had a good day for sure, but nothing like the magic of a new toy and high expectations coming true!

Congratulations on the FE! That one is in really nice condition as well!

Thx! They should be easier to find. I believe they were produced in really high numbers to replace the LC’s in circulation.

Thx man! I’m surprised you haven’t found one yet.

Thx! I found the LIDAR map on A Google search. In my county Penn State produced the data. It’s a great additional tool to work along with old map overlays and old aerial imagery when you can find it.
