It's NASTY. ;D I tied my best ever one day Injun total with 7...and in only a 4 hour hunt. Wouldn't you know they are all at least G to VG EXCEPT the one I wanted. :D Finally I popped out the scarce 1872 that books at $300 in F-12....$125 in VG-8....even $75 in G-4. HOWEVER I would have to grade the one I found as C-1 (CRAPPY) ;D It looks like half of it was sitting in fertilizer for many years now. Back in the early 80's I found the 1877...but this 1872 has eluded me until now.

Oh well....to be honest it really doesn't matter... as I found it..and that's what counts. It also has a very clear date which is what I do like about it.

I met up with a hunting buddy...Deeponedge... and the soil in this park was definately not kind to these injuns. :icon_scratch: He also found 3- 1800's injuns...but all of them were nasty too. It's a shame...'cause if the 1872 was anywhere as nice as the 1865...It's a $75 coin at worst. Oh well...I said that didn't matter didn't I?? ;D ::)

This park was obviously beaten to submision over the years because I never even found a wheatie. ...and neither did Darrel. All of the coins I found were 8" to 9"...except for the 1865..which was right at 10" deep. :o To be honest...that's why I love hunting a pounded to death park...because all the shallow targets to as deep as 7" targets are usually gone. That leaves only the deepies that everyone else obviously walked over..and for a reason. They're either deep...next to trash......standing on edge...etc. You really have to pay attention to faint chirps....then investigate those chirps.

One of the Barbers was right at 9"...and it gave the weakest "warbly" chirp. It only hit nice in one or two directions..but the sound I like was definately there. I never rely on cursor placement...because at depth...it just isn't as accurate as the sound given...at least to me anyway. :tard: When I went to all metal pinpoint to check it....the cursor still wasn't locking anywhere...BUT the sweet sound was good enough for me to try the target...so I dug. It ended up being at an angle off to the bottom side of the hole....so I'm glad I did. When you're having a good day...it's a Barber. On a bad day it would have been a rusty nail. ;D

I can't wait to go back sometime and see if I can't pull out a "fatty" injun. I know I walked over a couple of hits that sounded just between pulltab and injun. I tried a couple of them...and sure enough...pulltab. ??? I remember though...I dug my first fatty this year...and that's exactly where it hit. When injuns with these dates I was finding are popping out...it would definately be worth investigating some of the low conductor hits next time.

I ended up with 7 injuns...1865...1872....1886...2- 1892's...1898..and one 18?? Also the two Barbers...1907...and 1911.
Thanks for viewing and good luck on your next hunt. :headbang:

Sorry about the condition, but it's still a thrill to dig 'em,especially in just 4 hrs. good hunt!

Man, I've hunted all over & only found one Indian. An 1871 that was so crappy you couldn't even see the Indian! But like yours, the date was there loud & clear and like you, that was all that mattered to me!

Congrats on your great hunt!!!

well the dates there and thats the main thing since I'm sure it will not leave your "collection"-- great find to find a toughie like that one.

Nice batch of stuff there, you really got a nice site to hunt. And hey that IH could be worse too. At least it's free of crust. Congrats and hope you keep pulling them, HH

And the Barbers! 8) ;D

Awesome hunt, Silver!!!

Hey Freak- They're ALL beauties and they're all YOURS! Nice job. Now your mission can to be to upgrade it!!

Nice finds man,

I love to find injuns. I've got hundreds of them but no 77 yet. Do you still have your 77. The 70's are hard to come by. I'll dig 25 indians before a 70's date comes up. I got about 50 for the yr so far. Yes I agree. They leave the indians and nickles behind.

HH Jer

Great job.. A few of them Indianhead years are hard to find, not just the 72! :coffee2:

Bryce, I love to detect parks like that! That's the way it was in Iowa when I was there last year. Over here, it's mostly wheaties/mercs/rosies amongst a sea of clad/tabs/foil.

My '72 Injun I found last year is slightly better than yours. I included a pic of mine. You can never tell what condition your Injun will be until you see it. I've dug perfect, green patina, pimple free Injuns in the same areas I have dug crusty/corroded ones. :icon_scratch:

Very nice hunt for you, my friend!! You're one of those guys who rarely will get skunked....if the oldies/deepies are still there, you will find then!!

Congrats,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Nice haul. Great to find any 70's IH and like you say at least it has a strong date. :icon_sunny:

Usually I can get those deeper IH's but not the deeper silver (or maybe it's just not there). Anyway, enjoy.

Bob

That was a good day of detecting.

Nice stuff! It's nice to see you still pulling stuff out of parks.

What a great group of coins! Congrats on the 1872!
Glad to see you are getting out swinging a coil again! Looks to me like you are making up for lost time.
Wishing you the best! Hope all is improving.

Thanks. I've hunted for 10 hours and not popped out an injun...so I would have to say this was one of the best 4 hours I've ever had.

Thanks Mojo. It took me 30 years to find this one...so I don't know if I'll still be around to swing the coil in another 30 ;D
