It's NASTY. ;D I tied my best ever one day Injun total with 7...and in only a 4 hour hunt. Wouldn't you know they are all at least G to VG EXCEPT the one I wanted. :D Finally I popped out the scarce 1872 that books at $300 in F-12....$125 in VG-8....even $75 in G-4. HOWEVER I would have to grade the one I found as C-1 (CRAPPY) ;D It looks like half of it was sitting in fertilizer for many years now. Back in the early 80's I found the 1877...but this 1872 has eluded me until now.

Oh well....to be honest it really doesn't matter... as I found it..and that's what counts. It also has a very clear date which is what I do like about it.

I met up with a hunting buddy...Deeponedge... and the soil in this park was definately not kind to these injuns. :icon_scratch: He also found 3- 1800's injuns...but all of them were nasty too. It's a shame...'cause if the 1872 was anywhere as nice as the 1865...It's a $75 coin at worst. Oh well...I said that didn't matter didn't I?? ;D ::)

This park was obviously beaten to submision over the years because I never even found a wheatie. ...and neither did Darrel. All of the coins I found were 8" to 9"...except for the 1865..which was right at 10" deep. :o To be honest...that's why I love hunting a pounded to death park...because all the shallow targets to as deep as 7" targets are usually gone. That leaves only the deepies that everyone else obviously walked over..and for a reason. They're either deep...next to trash......standing on edge...etc. You really have to pay attention to faint chirps....then investigate those chirps.

One of the Barbers was right at 9"...and it gave the weakest "warbly" chirp. It only hit nice in one or two directions..but the sound I like was definately there. I never rely on cursor placement...because at depth...it just isn't as accurate as the sound given...at least to me anyway. :tard: When I went to all metal pinpoint to check it....the cursor still wasn't locking anywhere...BUT the sweet sound was good enough for me to try the target...so I dug. It ended up being at an angle off to the bottom side of the hole....so I'm glad I did. When you're having a good day...it's a Barber. On a bad day it would have been a rusty nail. ;D

I can't wait to go back sometime and see if I can't pull out a "fatty" injun. I know I walked over a couple of hits that sounded just between pulltab and injun. I tried a couple of them...and sure enough...pulltab. ??? I remember though...I dug my first fatty this year...and that's exactly where it hit. When injuns with these dates I was finding are popping out...it would definately be worth investigating some of the low conductor hits next time.

I ended up with 7 injuns...1865...1872....1886...2- 1892's...1898..and one 18?? Also the two Barbers...1907...and 1911.
Thanks for viewing and good luck on your next hunt. :headbang:

Bryce, congrats on the 1872 indian. Very nice barbers too. You are the king of those deep signals. Keep pulling those deep ones. HH

Holy Smokes.............what a friggin' haul. Betcha had a good rush. Great digs Silverfreak  Rich

nice recoveries! Its all about the thrill of the hunt that makes it all worth while

 Congrats on the 1872, a tough date for sure. Nice haul of older coins, I've started checking out a lot of those deep targets even if they don't look good on the meter. Most of the time it ends up being junk, but not always.

Silver Freak,
That was sure a great day. I will take those finds any day of the week and I hope to be having a Barber kind of day soon as well.
Nice.
Rob ~ Out

PS. Forgot to mention what you found in four hours may take some people a lifetime to find.
You are very fortunate.
Thanks Rob. Yes...I was very fortunate. I have gone 4 or 5 hunts without an injun....and then hunted all day and just found one. This hunt was nuts...and I planned on leaving after 3 hours...but I already had 6...and wanted to tie my record

I think it is lucky to dig an IH with little corrosion. Let alone some kind of key date IH with little corrosion. The barbers are cool too.

Good Hunting,
Keep @ it and HH!!
Thanks MUD. Yep...you never know on Injuns...but most of them do come out cruddy. Just not this cruddy ;D

HOLY COW Bryce!! You are THE Indian Head slayer these days!!! Great job!
Jerry
Thanks Jerry. I have gotten "hooked" on listening for them and the unique sound they have. Not all sites have the potential for injuns as I'm sure you know (you've found some sweet ones)...but at the older sites...I have been really trying for them. Take care

Great hunt and congrates on that one good fine

Bryce....That's awesome Man,Congratulation's on the 72'....I haven't found an IH until this year,4 this year in which 3 were CW period and 2 being Fattie's.I told "Momma" I wanted an SE for X-MAS this year and she asked how much they were and I told her......this is what she think's of me now :tard: Congrat's again Bryce......
Thanks Civ. To be honest...now's a good time to get an SE if you can deal with a used one. They are going pretty reasonable on some auction sites because of the release of the E-trac. I hope Santa...or "momma" sets one under the tree for you.

The stuff you pull out of hunted-out parks is UNBELIEVEABLE!
I'm amazed. You make me want to go downtown, to the "main old park" right near me.
I really don't hunt there anymore, because I've always been under the assumtion that it's been detected to DEATH, since detectors were invented. That's even what the old-timers in my club tell me.
The only time I've ever had any real luck in parks (as far as OLD coins go) was when there was construction projects going on, and they took off over a foot of topsoil.
That's why I've just been stickin' to old homesteads.
Anyway, Congrats on the Keepers!
Nice Stuff!

Thanks JDD. I told G-Money that the 3 of us need to try and meet around St. Louis to hunt before the weather gets bad

Dang Bryce, I'd be happy with ANY of those coins. Not only do 1872 IH's elude me, but coins all together elude me. :tongue3: :'(
Congrats on being able to check that one off your list. Sweet finds.
-MM-
Thanks MM. I'm sure you will find some great oldies before the hunt season ends. You always find some sweet relics..so I'm sure the coins will start popping out.

Thanks DD. I love taking chances if I'm at a site that has given up some nice ones in the past.

Thanks BK. I actually have more fun at pounded sites because all the surface to shallow stuff is out of the way. Don't get me wrong...the signals are definately scarce...but I feel I have a better chance at finding something deep and good because of that fact. I just go super slow and pay attention to little chirps. Take care buffy.
