Hello all! I got out this weekend to the spot I found the Rev War cannonballs at a couple weeks ago. It's tough hunting but I managed to save a few goodies! Needless to say the LC made my day! This is my 2nd oldest coin to date & my first US large cent. My oldest coin is a KG11 copper that also came from this location. I was very happy to be able to get a date off of this, I know these coins don't do so well in the ground. I'm tempted to try to clean it some more but I'm not! I just toothpicked the dirt off. Although, I would like to hear any suggestions if you think anything else would improve it. I also found a toasted pewter button (no USA intertwined this time!), a big iron key, part of a late 18th early 19thc fork etc. I wonder what these big iron spikes are for, I've found a few. Any info on the mystery item would be appreciated. (Solved- part of a drawer pull) There was a Rev War camp here & a house from the 1760s-early 1900s. Thanks for looking & HH!

That's a great looking first large cent! Congrats!

Firsts are still the best!

Congrats! I wouldn't clean it anymore. Maybe see about sealing it permanently.

Very nice find, awesome when you can get detail from the ground like that. Congrats!

Super nice hunt, congrats on the finds!

Mangum I totally agree with everyone about you not cleaning your first LC. Just wanted to show you how mine come out of the ground and how they clean up in case you ever run into the ugly green crud. Awesome copper bud

Yeah, I'm not doing anything to it, I'm lucky I can make out the date. Thanks for sharing your method. That 1827 looks great!

:icon_thumleft:Congrats on your first LC. Those big green disks are a thrill when you first see them, aren't they? Hope you see many more!

Congrats man. I remember my first almost 2 years ago. It's a great feeling. Mine was a holed 1818.

Congrats on your first Large Cent! When I got my first metal detector in 1985, a large cent was at the top of my list. Lent the machine to my brother for a couple hours and he returns with a large cent in hand. Took me years to find my first!
