I have combined the findings from my last 2 hunts in the first pic. Yesterday I got this bright Idea that I would write a custom program for the Explorer 2. So I raided my wifes jewelry box and took every piece of gold we had in the house and scanned them in. I realized with the Explorer choked down to only pickup these gold items my depth wouldn't be great. I went on off to the old fairgrounds I hunt at alot and dug about 500 holes nothing over 6" and I proceeded to find more aluminum foil, pull-tabs, and bases of christmas lights than I can count, my pouch was overflowing. The result was Gold = 0, Nickels = 11 Oh well I tried. Then today I took the trusty old Sovereign GT and found 6 wheats, 1-1900 injun, 1-1923 merc, 1-Old Nashville Transit Bus Token and MY FIRST BARBER QUARTER> WHOA I was pumped but I am worn out from 2 days of extreme detecting. I think that I am going to devote the next couple days in the library for some local history research and give the arms and back a break. See ya later

BRAVO on your first Barber Quarter!

Believe it or not, after 16 years I'm still looking for my first. LOL. That's partly because I hunt the older stuff...but heck, I've watched one of my buddies dig TWO out in one week on hunts with me (grrrrr....KFB >:( :D) ) Anyhow, a SERIOUS congrats on that one.

Regards,

Buckleboy

BB that last one I got was 2 inches deep so Im not sure your machine would have picked it up anyway :D ;D Hey if you was 6 inches to the left you would have got it.............thats what makes it even better!!!!!!! ;D

Hey John,Congrats on your first barber quarter!!! The seated coins won't be far behind,I hope you get 'em! As far as tuning to get only gold,I think your time would be better spent in research and actual hunting. I haven't used every brand of machine therefore I'm not an expert but it's my understanding that gold, aluminum, nickel and lead all have basically the same molecular structure and therefore getting rid of the alum. and lead trash will also null the gold.My Dad had a goldbug and he picked up more lead shot than gold and that was with a specialised gold machine.Best advice if you want to find gold is to keep the discrimination low, just high enough to null the iron nails and steel bottle caps and dig everything that gives a solid hit in this setting,if it's there and not too deep for your riggin' you'll get it! LOOK LEFT!!!
Congrats again! Bootstrap
