I have combined the findings from my last 2 hunts in the first pic. Yesterday I got this bright Idea that I would write a custom program for the Explorer 2. So I raided my wifes jewelry box and took every piece of gold we had in the house and scanned them in. I realized with the Explorer choked down to only pickup these gold items my depth wouldn't be great. I went on off to the old fairgrounds I hunt at alot and dug about 500 holes nothing over 6" and I proceeded to find more aluminum foil, pull-tabs, and bases of christmas lights than I can count, my pouch was overflowing. The result was Gold = 0, Nickels = 11 Oh well I tried. Then today I took the trusty old Sovereign GT and found 6 wheats, 1-1900 injun, 1-1923 merc, 1-Old Nashville Transit Bus Token and MY FIRST BARBER QUARTER> WHOA I was pumped but I am worn out from 2 days of extreme detecting. I think that I am going to devote the next couple days in the library for some local history research and give the arms and back a break. See ya later

WTG on the Barber Bro. and you keep tryin' the prog. on the gold, I can't help but think with the nickles you plucked in one day your chances of popin' out more gold Is improved.

Little Brother, KirkTN ;D

Hey John,

It's nearly impossible to know where gold will show up on the Explorer. Different shapes and metal compositions of gold will result in many different tones/locations on the Smartscreen. If you don't dig all the low/mid conductors you hear, you could be passing up gold of any shape and form.

Big congrats to you on your first Barber Quarter. She's been in circulation a long time, but it's a coin you'll never forget digging.

HH,
CAPTN SE
Dan

Thanks Captain SE I keep telling myself that gold will be a smoother sound in the low to mid range because it is such a good conductor, however I realize this is probably not the case. I didn't find any gold yesterday but I did discover just how many of the low and mid tones my ears had been choosing to overlook searching for the coin sounds. Is there any better way with the explorer to concentrate on gold.

Congrats on the 1st Barber Q!!! May your coil pass over many more...

HH Robert

BRAVO on your first Barber Quarter!

Believe it or not, after 16 years I'm still looking for my first. LOL. That's partly because I hunt the older stuff...but heck, I've watched one of my buddies dig TWO out in one week on hunts with me (grrrrr....KFB >:( :D) ) Anyhow, a SERIOUS congrats on that one.

Regards,

Buckleboy
