In my first full year detecting (Last Year), I found more gold rings then Wheat Cents. It really depends on where you are, where you hunt, what machine you are using and how good you are with that machine. This year has been a little better on Wheaties. I love finding them almost as much as Silver and Gold.

Congrats! Yeah, I've been out of the loop for a few years at least, but I do recall those wheats were far and few between unless you stumble on virgin soil. My old IDX Pro found wheats at 11 honest inches at times in parks that were hunted thousands of times. That machine loved wheats and dimes.

Wheat cents are getting much harder to find in public areas around me, I have only found one so far this year in puplic. Private areas are a lot better at giving up wheaties. Your day will come.....GRiley

You found nearly the oldest possible - 1910 , nicely done ! In about nine years of detecting , I still haven't found an Indian Head !
hey - I didn't find my first buffalo nickel until last summer- and I haven't yet found a standing liberty quarter , or a seated of any kind.
(I lived in one of the oldest continuously settled areas of the U.S. - Santa Fe, NM.- for most of my years detecting thus far )

Its not easy finding wheats out here but one will surface occasionally. Anymore I don't use soap and water on them but instead use that Baby oil stuff they seem to turn out better for me, true some are just toasted but I enjoy saving them anyways!
