Relic Hunting
We found these several years back. A short afternoon hunt for us turned into a day we will never forget. Two whole water pots, one bowl, and two other pots and one bowl that came out in pieces but enough left to reconstruct. We've found a lot of pottery over the years but never any complete pieces like these. It was a great day and even better having shared the experience with my Dad!

Beautiful finds. Glad you saved these items from destruction by natural elements or somebody riding a bulldozer or 4 wheeler.
I would have walked right by something like that, but hopefully reading these posts will help me pay more attention to my surroundings. It took a good eye to see that rim and investigate and recover these artifacts.

Looks to be Mississippian period by the swirls on them.

Once found a pot in a black spot on the ground that we thought was a oil spot from a log loader, but after looking closer is was an old fire pit and the pot was just under the surface. But it was broken due to heavy machines driving over the top of the soil:BangHead:

....those are so nice and like the way you show them as well! Great find!

what era r they from...do u have any ideas?

Excellent work getting those out! I would will them to the state museum if it was me so when my time comes, they would be in safe keeping!

I bet it looked like a tire rim sticking up I can see that. Beautiful saved history. They would be long gone by now if not saved. I was fishing a bass tournament with a guy and thought I saw a whole pot on the bottom. I stripped down and dove for it and came up with a clay flower pot. It was in February. They gave me a hard time at the weigh in. Once in a blue moon a guy gets lucky. You all were very lucky.

Those are amazing...congrats to you both.
I only know of one whole pot found in this area, allegedly found by a young boy at a badger hole back in the 20's.
They are incredible, cherish them.
