Hi all,
Been alonggg time since i posted here but been on here alot last few weeks and today i just had to show my finds. Some might remember me,but for those who don't,i'm the guy that works restoring old pianos and often find alot of great finds under the keys or lost inside somewhere.I didn't find these with my metal detector but finds is finds to me.Today the boss comes in and has me drag out two old pianos from way back in the back room.So the first part of my job is to take them apart, remove the keys and clean all the old "junk" and dust from them.Under the keys is where i often find old coins that have fallen between the notes to be lost until i come along. The black piano is from around 1890 and the other from around 1910's.The coins i find are usually in very nice condition having been out of circulation for awhile and not seeing dirt or rain.So here is what was found under in these 2 today. Some time soon i'll have to post a pic of all the finds i've found over the 18 years i've worked there.

Great story thanks for posting it 8) AA

Great finds no matter where you find them. Way to go!

Great coins Jason! Beats digging in the dirt, huh? Nice pics, too.

When we had our 1912 upright (belonged to my grandmother) tuned a few years back we were amazed at all the toys that our own kids had dropped down behind the front board (by the pedals) without our knowledge. Who'd a thunk it? :)

Hey Jason...great post and nice finds. I'll be taking my piano apart any minute...thanx!

cool finds, i used to work in a second hand store and we got old pianos, organs in all them time, i never thought about checking them for old stuff, any easy way to get the keys off? thanks tg

Whats the date on that shield nickle ????? man please post your "piano treasure " what a treat

Treasureguy---- Some pianos the keys are easy to get out and some are alittle tricky and you can break things pretty easy.I'll have to make a post detailing the steps with some pics to help make it easier for those that want to check.

Texan connection--- I can't tell what the date is,its so badly worn.It was found in one of the few spots under the keys that would cause it to be constantly rubbed and worn. The approx. dates i wrote were only because i noticed those years have the stars without lines, which mine has,and the earlier didn't.Wish there was a way i could tell, but its worn so bad.

that's awsome , great coins and the worlds fair is really cool too.

the best i do is find wheat pennys in boss's penny bin .
he doesnt care about them so ok ill take them .

well thanks for the post

Wow, that's a great spot to find old coins and other stuff. Great coins you found. The buf with the green patina looks like it was kissing a wheat. Was it?

Waiting to see all you finds like you said.

HH and thanks for sharing.

You need to check the inside bottom too. As mentioned above, some things are found by the pedals. I remember as a kid, putting stuff on the key cover and then folding it back into the piano...the stuff was never seen again. :'(

Great post and some awesome finds, can't wait to see the rest of em.

Great Post! And you're getting paid to find these!!
Texan Connection says it best, quoting Calvin........... "Treasure is Everywhere!!"

Cool finds, Jason!

Would love to see a pic of 18 years worth.

Thanks for sharing.

Really cool! When I took our piano apart, I found a 1948 Canadian quarter - silver, and other little knick knacks under the keys. This is probably a pretty common practice for piano people, I'd think.

I never thought of it before, but a piano is like a time capsule..I don't think I'd attempt to take mine apart without professional help though - I'm sure that I'd have leftover pieces when I put it back together. ;D

Very cool! As long as you find them they count! Thanks for sharing. I know of an old house that has an old busted up piano in it and I am gonna have to go check it out. ;)

Please tell me that's NOT a 1916-D merc dime?
If it IS, Kirk will HAVE to include you in his Top 25, right Kirk?

Man, a modern day cache....albeit an un-intentional one. Nice!! ;)
